Reg Evans Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 This handle actually came off of my Sweptside tailgate but it looks like a trunk handle to me. Any similar handle would work as long as the square shank is at least 2" long and 5/16" square. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Reg; Go ahead and send the money and I will see what I can find:cool: Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Reg , Can you use this one or parts from it ? The shaft is only 1 5/8 long and looks to be crimped in place . The mounting holes are 1 3/4 center to center . The handle takes a key and no keys . The colar on the shaft is 3/4 diameter and extends from the base by 1/2 inch . Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Perhaps you could weld a chunk of your old shaft onto the new shaft . Quote
Reg Evans Posted July 22, 2010 Author Report Posted July 22, 2010 Reg;Go ahead and send the money and I will see what I can find:cool: Wow ! Thanks Don......Hows about .....a penny for your thoughts? Quote
Reg Evans Posted July 22, 2010 Author Report Posted July 22, 2010 Perhaps you could weld a chunk of your old shaft onto the new shaft . Great. That looks like it might be workable Jerry. Lets see if anything else comes up first though. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 look to the Suburban part car if you stillhave it..they use the same setup...but I still think the truck topper/hardwares store model will suit your purpose..as for Don...don't fall into that trap..man is fixing to retire..its a scam I'm sure... NiftyFifty Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 looks like the same style of handle you would find on many truck caps...I bet you could find one of those easily enough and then just cut to size and most have a fairly long shaft. Happy hunting! Quote
Reg Evans Posted July 23, 2010 Author Report Posted July 23, 2010 Thanks guys for the ideas. I found one on eBay for cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180475794829&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT Quote
HanksB3B Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 That was easy...it sure looks close to the images attached here. If it works (and it looks like it will) it should buy you some serious time in findind the real-deal. Shipping is not a rip either. Good Luck, Hank Quote
Reg Evans Posted July 23, 2010 Author Report Posted July 23, 2010 It sure was easy Hank. Now the harder part begins. I have to drill 17 holes in the replacement gate to accept the latching mechanisms. Once I get that done I'll take it back off and all apart so Lisa can sandblast it for me while I'm inside wearing her apron doing women's work. Quote
HanksB3B Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 At least at this point in life, you have learned to be honest about things... well maybe... except for one thing that I hope your brother doesn't know about. Hank P.S. That Sweptside looks like a nice project to get into. Quote
