If you drive it with the existing patina it will be a big attention getter .
Well Jerry, my son is saying "whatever you do, don't paint this car! Drive it just like you found it". The cowl and several places that still have the paint show green.

One thing is for sure, I can't drive it (far) without a floor , or any seats in it. I reckon I will be doing the Merle Coggins bucket seat manuever for a while to move it around. I intend to drive it at least across the yard this weekend. I have gotten the shifter freed up. It started moving side to side, then into the gears little by little. I have to get some hoses on it first, and a couple of tires mounted.

The hoses are really different, as the heater hose outlets were molded into the radiator hoses, and there is no outlet through the head at the back top right, although there looks like a place where a port would go that was never drilled out. The heater core has gone missing. I have some old cast off hoses that were still pretty good, so will use them for now.

I am going to get the camera figured out this weekend also. Joel

I thought I heard a rumbling noise coming from the west. I did see a big cloud of smoke. Glad you got it running.
I had to get it running Don...work is getting slow here and I figured I might have to make a run to Tn. in it and pick up a load of shine.

Glad you got the old Plymouth running, will be anxoius to see photos.

How far do you live from Fletcher, OK?

Good luck,

Bob[/quote'] Bob, isn't Fletcher down towards Duncan/Lawton? I am in Pawnee County, about 30 minutes west of Tulsa, and just less than an hour south of the Kansas line. Joel

Yes, Fletcher is about half way between Lawton and Oklahoma City, we plan on driving out there in Nov after the baby is born to see him, my son and his girlfriend.

We have been down there three times, but not in the last five years

Get the camera figured out yet?

When you make it to Tn, come on over to Va. I will take you for a cruise ON the 38(Not in the 38)

Hey Joel , very glad to here you started this ole girl, sure wish I would have been there to see it first hand.

Sounds a likea real decent project, sseems to me that Oklahoma and Manitoba vehicles are similar in not being rusty as cars in the east.

What's the next plan for this great old car..........Fred

Bob, that looks like a fun ride to me. Thanks for the offer. I will be going to North Carolina the first weekend in August to pick up a drivetrain from Rock Able, but because of my wife's work schedule it will be a quick weekend trip, but you never know, I do get to Va. every once in a while.

Hey Fred, not too bad on the rust except for the floor, but the passenger side was hit sometime and it will need a front door, or a door skin, but not much different from the Dodge pickup bodywork wise, except a little more of it.

Not sure where I'm going with it as far as the gear Fred. I have a 5.7 engine/tanny/rearend from a wrecked 93 Buick Roadmaster that only has 42k miles on it, and a Mustang II front end, all of which I was going to use for the 46 International pickup, and it's tempting to set it up , but I want to see what kind of shape everything in the car actually is in before I decide to go to pulling it's guts out. I guess hanging around on this forum the last couple years has made me develope more than a passing respect for staying original, especially when everything is there to do it. Joel

i have a rototiller that had rusty water in the gearcase and it would not shift. i drained it and filled it with a combo of atf, marvel mystery oil, penetrating fluid, and anything else i thought would help. let it sit 2 weeks and with some coaxing it all freed up. refilled with oil and still using it today. hope yours can free up as well. time and coaxing usually does the job. capt den

Don, Jerry, and others express my thougts. IF you do everything you want to do underneith, the put a different rear end ratio to run at 65 mph, get the car legal, the looks you would get on the highway would be PRICELESS! After that gets boring you can always finish the outside.

Stop by the Boro if you get a chance.

Sounds good don, thanks for the invite.

Thanks for the tips from everyone. I got the car to move today, and ran the engine off and on a bit, and as it turns out the smoke was not all the oil I had squirted down the cylinders, as the engine, in spite of starting easy and running pretty good, is well worn. I had intended to check vaccum and compression today, but it is probably moot, as it makes a steady cloud of blue smoke. I would have to have a rebuild to keep that engine. Although I am not in far on the cost of the car at all, (less than a set of tires), I don't know about how much money I would want (or have),to put in it to restore it back original, and I already have a nice late model engine/tranny/rearend, and I also have a MustangII front end, and I want to be able to drive the car, so I may go that way.

The fuel pump blowed out on me too, so I wired up an electric :) It has been fun getting it to start and move, and I think I'll just drive it here in the yard for a few days, then start taking it apart. Joel

The longer you run it the smoke may subside. Could just be a stuck ring that will free up given some running time.
Dang sure worth a try. I am going to check the vaccum and compression today and see what's what. This is the easiest starting engine I have ever ran across.

I boutht the engine for my 38 in 1987. The engine had been sitting along time. It smoked alot. I put in new filter and oil, 5w30 with a quart of ATV, and ran several times at a fast idle, each month with 93 Octane with a little 2 stroke oil added to that. After changing the oil to 15w 40 oil, the smoking was gone. Still good today.....good luck, Bob........
