p24-1953 Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 what will cause this condition? the car seems to be running good with the rebuilt carb, but today i had to do a quick stop braking hard (45-0) and the car just stoped sometime durring the stop. turned the key and after 2 cranks it fired right back up. Could the stall be caused by a fuel starved carb? Quote
JoelOkie Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Sounds like you stopped so fast the clutch didn't have time to dis-engage. Quote
p24-1953 Posted July 6, 2010 Author Report Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) got a hydrive, so i never even touched the clutch, but you might be right, might have just stalled out. just paranoid Edited July 6, 2010 by p24-1953 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 get to an area and try some panic stops and evualte the condition, if it persists, would first look to high float fuel splash over condition as first course of action..this oft times can be further qualified if stall exist during quick turns either left or right during a moderate braking action while turning..some days may be more prone than others as this is also affected by higher opeartion tempertures.. greg g Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Isn't there a dashpot on the carb that is supposed to keep the throttle from closing quickly, kinda like a shock absorber? To slow the return to idle while the load come out of the drive line? Quote
p24-1953 Posted July 6, 2010 Author Report Posted July 6, 2010 yeah the carb it supposed to have a dash pot, but somewhere in the last 57 years it has grwon legs and walked off, and those dont show up for sell very often. Quote
p24-1953 Posted July 6, 2010 Author Report Posted July 6, 2010 tim, so if the float was set to high, which would cause it to over fill, correct? on a sudden stop wouldnt all the fuel go forward? how would this cause it to stall out? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 at first pump of the brake the fuel will rush away from the throat but as the chamber is small, the splash back will be right behind that..question is, did you do the suggested test to discount this yet..it was merely a suggestion to a common problem..also on a hot day have you ever looked into the throat of the carb to see if or if not you are peculating.. p24-1953 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 tim, i tried it again last night, and i had to be in overdrive so 45-50 to 0 in order to get it to stall out, and it had to be a hard stop, pulling up to a light didnt do it. if i was going less than 30 than it wouldnt stall out, would i see percolation when the car is running or does it need to be off? after i stop the car and remove the air cleaner i have a white fog in the barrel of the carb. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 the white fog is evidence of raw fuel evaporating in the heated intake...where is this fuel coming from..earlier you mentioned a fuel bowl leaking and never keeping fuel ...has this been resolved..and yes this is when the engine is off...and at operating temperature. p24-1953 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 i had jack mans carb shop rebuild my carb, and it seems that i am now keeping fuel in the bowl, but i hanv't checked it after letting it sit for more than a day, i have been enjoy driving it. i kinda went through withdrawl after not driving it for 2 weeks. so when i turn the car off i shouldnt have any vapors in the carb? p24-1953 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 tim, thanks for all the advice... Quote
