Joe Flanagan Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Thanks to a tip from forum member Jersey Harold. I got a set of the famous ribbed bumpers for the 49 Plymouth from a guy in Bethlehem, PA. The chrome is not show, but very nice. They haven't even been cleaned up yet and they look very good. The bonus is one of the bumpers has all the chrome-headed bolts. I just saw six of these bolts go for $220 on E-bay. I got both bumpers for $150. I drove the 3 and a half hours from Alexandria, Va to Bethlehem in my old truck that has no AC and the temps were in the nineties with high humidity. On the way back I drove through about four or five tropical downpours just outside Philadelphia. About 400 miles round trip and took my entire Sunday but it was worth it. Thanks Harold. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Joe, Good for you on the bumpers! That's one helluva deal. Geezz, you had to drive in the pouring rain with your windows up in 90 degree weather? Musta been sweatin' like a pig. Tom Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 13, 2010 Author Report Posted June 13, 2010 No, I drove with them down. The rain was nice, except it was one of those downpours where your wipers can't keep up. People were pulling over. The things I do for my old Mopar. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 It is only after going the extra mile you score nice parts for a nice price..it is the ones who sit and say 200 miles is to far to travel that loses...I feel no sorrow for items/deals they let slip by and laugh when they say I should of gone for it....either you fish or cut bait... Flatie46 Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 I appreciate a good deal and the stories behind getting the parts for my car. You'll think about that trip years from now when your washing that car and grin. I'm trying to trade a friend out of a set of 49 bumpers for my sons car, it's been like pulling teeth. Quote
maine48ply Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Joe....you're quite a guy, I think I'm developing some hero worship for you. I've been there in the 90 degree humidity and it ain't good. Quote
PatS.... Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Good score, Joe I think half the fun of this hobby are the road trips for cars and parts. Going places and meeting nice folks you wouldn't otherwise meet. And looking at the car and knowing where all those parts came from adds to the enjoyment Quote
JerseyHarold Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 I'm happy to hear you got the bumpers. They needed a good home! Quote
