48P15Annie Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 What did P-15's come with originally for a trunk floor covering/mat? Currently, there's a burlap type mat in there now that one of the previous owners put in. It looks period correct, but it's cut horribly. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 I believe it was a rubber mat originally, but others on the forum know more. Hopefully they'll chime in. Quote
greg g Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 Whatdaheck is going on, I answered this and now it gone. The trunk mat is a rubber piece cut and boardered to match the countours of the trunk with a cut out for the spare. It should cover the entire floor from the openin to the passenger bulkhead except for a few inches at the bulkhead in the coupes. It has a ribbed embosment like the front rubber mats. there is a DCPD logo centered in the mat over the trunk latch. There was a fellow selling reasonable facsimilies a couple years back. He was in the links here. he also was in the Classifieds in the POC bulletin. Some one said his stock may have sold out a while back. Mine is original and in decent shape I can get some pics if you want. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) Rubber mat is correct. Just like Greg said. You might be able to use some commercial matting from a restaurant supply as a substitute. I carpeted mine to match carpet in the car. Not original, but works for me. This mat is in a 50 Plymouth........looks about the same. Here's a P15 Edited May 18, 2010 by BobT-47P15 Quote

mackster Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Thanks guys! The more pics, the better! I have seen a few with regular carpet on the trunk and that seems to look nice too...are you looking to get judge on originality? Quote
48P15Annie Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 Not really. Just curious as to what it was originally. In case I want to go back to that one day. I'm not going to give my self a stroke tracking down a trunk mat or anything. Would like to find one though. If not, no biggie... Quote
RobertKB Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Here's my DPCD trunk mat in my '48 Dodge D25 which is the same as the Plymouth but with Dodge trim. I wish it was in better shape but it is original to the car and will stay unless I find a better one. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I used maroon carpet and made matching maroon vinyl side panels. Nowhere near original, but I like it. Quote
steveplym Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 I went to wal-mart and bought a roll of $10 carpet. A friend of mine had just replaced his trunk mat in his '71 Nova. The old one was in decent shape, he just wanted a new one. So I used 3M spray carpet adhesive and glued the carpet to the mat. I took a piece of cardboard and made a pattern, then just laid the carpet over it and cut it. Put the carpet on the mat and cut the mat. It works pretty good, and with the rubber mat under the carpet and glued to it as well, it doesn't bunch up or slide much. Quote
