Hello All,

I am a new member living in Johannesburg South Africa. I have just purchased a 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe which I plan to have restored once I finish with a 1960 Impala project. I hope to learn a lot from you the experienced enthusiasts. There are not a lot of fora like yours. I actually plan to visit the US in August to attend about 7 of classic car shows for more exposure.I hope to also get advice on these shows as I have not attended any of these. My cars are all Right Hand Drives as South Africa is a Right Hand Country.

Welcome mate! Nice cars! I like the first letters on your Plymouth plate, "TAZ." I think of the tazmanian devil. Always like it when the letters are a cool combo whether by luck or design. Hope you have fun here in August!

Seth,

Welcome! We already have members from four continents and you've just made it five, which isn't bad for some old-car freaks. The folks from Oz have R\H drives, too, and are well-versed in their nuances so questions specific to it should be easily answered.

My family had a '56 Chevy wagon when I was a kid and the '60 Impala has always been one of the most elegant cars ever made in the US, in my opinion, because of its simplistic beauty. I think we're going to get along just fine.

Hello and welcome.

The Plymouth looks reasonably solid in the photos. Looks like previous

owner added some lights for turn signals.

Seth,

Welcome to the best old car forum there is.

Thanks for sharing the photos of your collection.

Whereabouts are the shows here in the states that you are planning on visiting?

Good luck with the Plymouth,

Bob

Welcome to a great forum. You have some very nice looking cars there. You will enjoy the P15 as they are great cars. Looks like yours has all the trim which is a good thing as it is probably the hardest thing to find for these old girls. Good luck with the project.

Hi All,

I plan to attend the following shows:

1. Street Rod Nationals 05.08 to 06.08.2010 Louisville KENTUCKY

2. Hot August Nights 07.08 to 08.08.2010 Reno Sparks NEVADA

3. Russo&Steele Auct. 11.08 to 13.08.2010 Monterey CARLIFORNIA

4. 12thAnn.Clas.Car Sh.16.08 to 18.08.2010 S.Tacoma WASHINGTON

5. Clas. at the Capital 19.08.to 20.08.2010 Raleigh N. CAROLINA

I have never been to these shows and would do well with advice from those that have been exposed to them.I always wanted to do this and this year would be appropriate as I turn 66 years and an idea of driving on route 66 would not be a bad idea.

So, suggestions would be highly appreciated also if I could meet some of you the experienced enthusiasts.

Regards,

Seth

As the August is drawing closer, is there any member attending these shows?

Hey Seth, I am 66, too, just did the Route 66 Fun Run this year. On the weekend of September 24 - 26, 2010, there are several nice events in some of the towns on Route 66, in Northern Arizona. Go to desertcruisers.com and see what all is happening in the seven South West states during the times you are stateside. So, what kind of trees do you have in SA? (hint, hint)

Thanks for the info. I am actually making arrangements to attend the 9th Great Northwest Nationals in Spokane on the 14th and the 15th before I go to South Tacoma. Hope to see some of the members there.

Charlie,

Perhaps this should be a PM but I'm sure there are others curious too; what's your interest in South African trees? My brothers and I have grown many of them from readily available seeds and they can be very exotic and you don't need to be in South Africa to grow them. There is a trick to getting many of the seeds to germinate by making them think they've passed through the intestinal tract of a cow but it's hardly a secret how to do it.

Are you planning to re-vamp Plywood in a rare Acacia? Just curious, that's all.

My 1946 Plymouth PLYWOOD Phantom Woodie was created by a man who grew the trees on his own land to fabricate this fun car. I don't really care about horticulture, but I would like to tease you into considering a Phantom Woodie of your own, since you wouldn't be attaching the wood to a show car.
