Rollie Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Thanks in part to all the good people at the P15-D24 video: Quote
boxer_inv Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 sweeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!! Exhaust note sounds divine Congratulations Quote
rockable Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Awesome! That's the kind of "rap" I like. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Nice video but I think I smelled some wood burning:rolleyes: Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 nice video! great patina on your car:cool: i want those headers, too:D Quote
plyman 50 Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Sounds good. Headers really add to the looks. I split my manifold and the dual sound is there but I like the look of headers. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Pretty clever idea with the wood. Next best thing to the Coatney engine stand. Quote
DutchEdwin Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Don, to make the woody more beautiful I would like to suggest to use wood from a pear tree, the color will give a better match........LOL. Nice video, nice looking engine. First time I heard a 6 run. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 do you have a photo from the bottom side, showing how your pipes are arranged under the car? where did you buy those headers, at langdon's? Quote
Rollie Posted May 13, 2010 Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 Those are the Langdon "Fenton style" headers, and I went with Smithy mufflers. The duals just follow the stock single pipe location. I could provide photos if you'd like. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 pics are always nice:) i'm running a single 2" pipe on a factory manifold and a single "bullet" muffler, but since i am going to lower the car 3" in the back i don't want to lay the exaust across the rear axle anymore. the plan would be to to buy the fenton style headers (since i like the sound so much) and let the pipes exit in front of the rear wheels under the running boards on both sides. keep us updated on your assembly progress, this will be a great car! Rollie Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 Drove the car with the new motor for the first time today, need to adjust the clutch and fix the off idle stumble. Quote
Jim Yergin Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Congratulations from one woodie owner to another. Jim Yergin Quote
pflaming Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 (edited) Question: Do you have CAD drawings for that radiator mount. Looks like a good way to check things out before putting the 'dog house' back on. Good work, enjoyed the video? Edited May 16, 2010 by pflaming Quote
aero3113 Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Its hard to tell but in the second picture I think you have a big smile on your face Quote
adam_knox Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Congratulations! Very exciting! Don't forget to double check that the hood is securely latched! Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Suggest you clean your yellowalls:rolleyes: Quote
Rollie Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 The wood jokes just write themselves... and Don, I refer to those as my "brown walls". Got the front clip back on a week ago and been driving the heck out of the car. This flathead is very enjoyable to drive. Quote
Rollie Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 After 4 hours of working a wire wheel the front clip cleaned up nicely: Quote
Rollie Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) The off idle stumble was caused by my attempt to create stock looking linkage for the 2-barrel carburetor. All the pivot points created too much play, ended up going with a 48" Lokar throttle cable. Spent too much time on design and fabbing parts. First pivot arm is a stock peice cut and flipped. Second pivot arm was my rough attempt and recreating the stock piece (flipped) out of flat steel: Lokar fits stock pedal nicely, only had to do a little bit of filing. I knew there was a reason I hung on to that short piece of left over hanger: Much cleaner and a lot better throttle control: Edited June 9, 2010 by Rollie Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 good job on that front clip! i still live in faer of the day i have to take mine off... what model carb are you using there, does it run better and more economically than the carter 1bbl or why did you change it? a linkage would have been nice for sure, but this way it's clean, too! Quote
BeBop138 Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Fun-fun-fun--a bunch of us are getting the engines running and cars on the road---it is a good feeling. Great job---I like the clean carb linkage. Good luck on the rest..............Lee:D Quote
JoelOkie Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Nice job. Same car, and same color (sans the nice patina) as the one we had when I was a kid. My dad ended up re-building the engine with it still in the car, working under a carport, with an "overhaul" kit from Western Auto. Joel Quote
