Engine rebuild

I have inherited a 48' D-24. It has been sitting in a garage for 20+ years and the motor needs to be rebuilt. The pistons were cracked and the rings shot but the cylinder walls look good. Where can I buy pistons and rings for this motor. I know NAPA sells parts but is there any other place that sell these parts at decent price?

You should measure the cylinders. Appearance by eyesight doesnt mean much

I agree with Ed. Have the cylinders measured.

When you go on to have a rebuilt, you will probably run into a lot of thing that need replacement. Egge is a good place for a complete kit. My advice, get a manual. Take the engine apart. Label every part and put all the bolts in labeled bags. Take more pictures than your computer can store (when putting it back together you always miss that one picture) and buy the new parts you need. Get the block cleaned in a shop and check every channel and corner for left sludge and clean it.

Might I suggest that you pick up a copy of the monthly Hemmings used car and parts books and look in the Chrysler general parts in the front of the book. You should find a copy of the ad for Terrell Machine in DeSoto, Texas. His ad has better prices than Kanter. I bought all of my parts from him. He also rebuilds vacuum advances, He has rebuilt three of them for me and I have been more than satisfied with all of his parts and services. Some of his parts are new old stock government surplus Dodge 3/4 ton engine parts which is what you usually get from Vintage Power-Wagon.
