Niel Hoback Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Young Ed, balsa is the lightest, softest wood there is. Did you ever make a model airplane? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Yes it is light and soft but its still a hardwood http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ochroma_pyramidale Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 A hardwood just means that it comes from a deciduous tree, or one that has leaves that drop in the fall. (Maple, Oak, Birch, Poplar, Basswood, Balsa, etc) Some are rather hard woods and some are relatively soft, but all are considered hardwoods. The other catagory of wood comes from coniferous trees like Pine or Fir. (trees with needles) Merle Quote
