BobT-47P15 Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 I have a push-pull cable with good chrome handle and bracket to mount below the dash. But I don't think this cable turns and locks as some do. So, is it imperative to have a "locking" cable to use with the overdrive? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Bob the OD cables don't lock. They just push and pull. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 according to a blurb I read somewhere, the 49 Plymouth hood cables were adapted by the factory for the OD and were engraved to say Overdrive.. Quote
Dave Bohn Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 For anyone who needs one, I found an OD cable with the handle labled "overdrive" from Concours Ford parts 49-59 catalog. The length was just about exact without any cutting fo my D24. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 Thanks Dave. I looked them up and ordered their free catalog. I see the OD cable says "fits Merc" and sells for $50. I suspect there are other Ford parts and pieces that can work for an old Plym or Dodge. Quote
blueskies Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Bob- I'm using a hood release cable on my OD, and it doesn't lock. I have noticed however that when the cable is pulled out, it tends to migrate back in after a while. I've been using a binder clip to hold it out when I drive down a long grade. Otherwise, I leave it in all the time and it's not an issue... Pete Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 16, 2010 Author Report Posted February 16, 2010 Hmmmm--OK, then, I guess the lock part isn't required. Somehow I had in mind that it was. Thanks for the input guys. Quote
martybose Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 I bought my OD cable from Neal Riddle, and it turns to lock. Marty Quote
