I would not have turned down "trains". When I was a kid I wanted to be a real engineer, not the paper pushing type I am now.

I am not a real engineer although (work wise) I am titled as a field engineer. My dad who was a lisenced professional engineer would take exception to my title as I do. I am a field mechanic.
