BobT-47P15 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Looks like a great buy. What's the story on the hot rod roadster in the driveway?? Quote
47chrysler Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 thats my 27 T I've had for the last 41 years. First car I ever built. Running a ford 289 Crobra/c-4/ford 9 in posi with 4.11 gears yes it will smoke em if need be. The Chrysler on the other hand smokes all the times, back fires though the oil pan, and shifts into high only ocasionaly. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Ah, so......seems like a new challenge for you there. Lots of good and useful info on this site.......one good way to see previous posts on various topics is use the "search the forum" feature. Sometimes ya gotta wade thru things, but you may just find an answer you need. Also the Parts Manual and Repair Manual for your model contain all sorts of good stuff. Quote
RobertKB Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 paid 1800.00 for it as is Great price even if it does need engine work. Your grille looks good but it would probably cost you that much to chrome the grille alone. Good buy. Quote
dezeldoc Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Nice car what model is it? straight 8 or 6? Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 nasty herman munster style thingy sitting in you driveway! eerie... i like your cars! have fun with the chrysler, it looks very solid and i guess it's a steal...! Quote
47chrysler Posted February 7, 2010 Author Report Posted February 7, 2010 fred Are you running a flat head 6 also? ever done anything to your motor? I am looking to pull mine out next momth for a overhaul. the machine shop (orielly's, Where I work) will send it back to me ready to assemby myself. My flui=drive isn't workin and am wondering of any other trans mission I could use instead? I hate too spend 600. for a conversion plate to use a 350 turbo! Quote
thrashingcows Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Nice Chrysler!! I just joined with a 48 Desoto. I have been wading through tons of old posts soaking up all kinds of info. I already have a Factory service manual in the "reading room". Good luck with the project and keep us posted. Quote
PatS.... Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 The Chrysler on the other hand smokes all the times, back fires though the oil pan, and shifts into high only ocasionaly. That flatulence is common in 63 yr olds:eek: Quote

Hi I am also running a flat head engine, this 1 is a Canadian long block from a Ddoge, whcih is identical tot eh 251, except for bore/stroke. I am currently running a dry clutch,3spd trans, 3.73 diff. What is wrong with the fluid drive? Let us know, maybe we can help you out with it, those trans are sually bullet proof, as well the fluid couplers usually are,t much trouble. So elaborate on the trans and see what we can come up with.......Fred Quote
47chrysler Posted February 7, 2010 Author Report Posted February 7, 2010 my car has been converted to 12 volts neg grownd and I do not have the orignal carb with the dohickey that crontrolls the transmission. It backs fires though the oil pan so badley that it was launching the oil cap into the hood. I put a hose on it directing it down to the street so the cab doesen't fill with smoke when this happens. I have 1st and 3rd gears by shifting and some times after the I have drove a bit it will shift from 1st into 2nd and then to 4th. I plan on putting a dual manifold, split exchuast and maybee the hei dist after the rebuild. any help would be aprecated p.s. great lookin motor in yours Quote

Being converted to 12 volts is fine, but you will need voltage reducers for some of the electrical equipment on the trans. Converting to regular clutch and 3spd trans is fairly simple, but a fluid drive is cool too, like driving an automatic, just very slow on the draw Edited February 7, 2010 by Rockwood Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 That's a nice Chrysler, I don't know much about the shifting problem however someone here will be able to help for sure. The other car in your collection. You have had for 41 years. It just amazes me to no end how folks can have such wide ranges of interest. That is a true hot rod you have yet you bought and like the 47. I look forward to your post, welcome. I, like you enjoy a wide range of cars. I am going backward I just bought my first hotrod:) Quote

I am with Rockwood, the fluid drive is very dependable--but if you want all the goodies on the engine the adapter plate for a T-5 is a vast improvement. Best move for the buck, in town power with the overdrive you have great highway driving with the lower RPM`s---nice car....Lee Quote
PatS.... Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 You can likey still make the M5 work even with 12 volt positive ground. All the power to shift the M5 comes from the coil. I don't think it cares about volts or whether it's + or -. You would need the carb though for the electrical to shift it, although there may be a way around that as well, similar to the switch guys are using for the overdrive. Quote

Hey Pat, I think your right, Ed Pauch has this set-up with 12 volt negative. But first of all we need this Guy to verify he has this transmission to begin with.........Fred Quote
Tim Keith Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Your '47 is an excellent deal. I have a '47 DeSoto club coupe that looks the same from the back. I paid twice as much for mine. I think I like the Chrysler grill better, or it seems to photo better as the horizontal theme makes the Chrysler look lower. Mine needs headliner and door panels recovered but looks about the same as yours. Quote
