P-12 Tommy Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Hey guys, Is it possible to change from a sealed oil filter cartridge to one that the lid comes off to put a filter in and using the same oil lines? Just curious. Tom Quote
RobertKB Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Hey guys, Is it possible to change from a sealed oil filter cartridge to one that the lid comes off to put a filter in and using the same oil lines? Just curious.Tom It is likely it can be done. At worst you would have to replace the lines with ones of a slightly different length or possibly just rebend the old ones. Should be a pretty straight forward upgrade. I call it an upgrade because it is a lot easier to get the replaceable filter. Quote
Andydodge Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Tommy, Robert is correct, so long as you have a filter that the lines willl connect up to, it doesn't matter whether its a sealed canister or one with an opening lid, so long as the lines will bolt onto the canister and they are correctly aligned, ie, the "in" & "out" from the sealed cannister will bolt onto the same places on the opening cannister then is fine........andyd Quote
TodFitch Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 I have, in its original box with installation instructions, a replaceable element oil filter kit for replacing the sealed canister type filters. It is Chrysler part number 1123152, also marked on the box as "Thrift Type MP701". The instructions show it simply being installed in the existing bracket/clamp and having the existing oil lines attached to it. I'll do that someday when I run out of the sealed canister oil filters. Robert Horne Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 The large one came off my 37. Must have been a truck unit. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted December 31, 2009 Author Report Posted December 31, 2009 I'm looking on E-bay as we speak. But if someone here has a housing, I'll buy it. Thanks, Tom Quote
aero3113 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Here is the filter I installed. When I first got the car it had a sealed filter. I replaced it with this Fram filter and did not have to change the lines. Quote
