The 39-47 trucks have a fairly uncomfortable seat and my next truck I plan to drive a lot. I'm planning a 5spd disk brake front 12v etc. So as I'm planning my build and collecting stuff I've come to the interior. The stock seat cushions sat on this framework thats built right into the floor. Besides hacking it out and making a flat floor(which im hesitant to do-the rear part of it looks kinds structural for the cab) anyone got ideas for alternatives?

Tim A I know you had a 41 with a v8 what kinda seat did you put in there?

Ed..that may have been in and of itself the biggest mistake in my building of the truck..It had the original seats re-upholestered, still had the working vent for cushioning built into the bottom. I did not care for the low headroom and I am not by any means tall..the having to crook my neck to peer out the windshield was unconfortable...the longest distance I ever drove this truck per trip was 288 miles..for short runs and such it was a trip to putt around in..the huge hi-po big block would talk like nothing else..also having a wife and two kids put the truck on the useless list for commuting (width in the cab an issue also)...I miss it but at the same time I could care less if I ever rode in it again...that truck was an exercise in patience..built to occupy some less than fun time and clear the cobwebs from my mind...it served its purpose and to that extent I think more of the truck for that than any other reason..

For my 41 International I have sitting in place at the time a set of buckets from an Omni..I have no clue if they will remain in place...

So Tim if you were doing it over would you build some sorta platform and leave that old seat base in place or cut it out?

looking back Ed and based on my experience after putting the truck on the road, I would investigate lowering the original seat platform if possible. The seat itself was not the problem, it was actually very confortable and shaped to fit the compartment. I have a serious problem in the fact that I do not ever put a car on the road prior to finished paint and insurance and tags applied..it goes far to getting a car completed but in cases such as this..I would have faired better if I had thus I would probably have addressed the seat hieght at the time of the build. Anyway..past is past and I have since sold the vehicle, moved on to other things..my only car regrets thus far is the selling of my Porsche collection..one of the most fun cars ever...but they also served their purpose in life. I had turned 35, it was a time for a new car, new job or the fated girlfriend on the side...so being the guy I am...I opted for all three and I don't regret any of it for a moment...I don't recommend it either...lol

Thanks Tim. At this point this is all just exploring my options and seeing what others have done. This truck is a LONG ways away from needing a seat.

Some sport model and sub compact cars have bucket seats that sit very low. Might look at some of those seats, then just weld in a support and sit them on top of the existing seat frame shown. Or.........you could weld in an X support on the floor, then remove the original boxed frame. That would replace the support lost from removing the seat original seat riser.

I have a S10 bench seat sitting in my 37 Coupe, fits good. Ford Ranger bench seats fit nice also. In my 38 Coupe I have a seat from a Chevy or GMC Surburban, 3rd row, fit perfect, have to build a good platform for it.
