Johnny S Posted February 7, 2007 Author Report Posted February 7, 2007 Correction to that last post. The roster is laid our alphabetically. I made my own state-by-state listing from this. Ir's still neat! Ok, that sounds like it works as hoped for with our list here. I think the free Frappr website is a good mapping alternative. You can add as much or as little as you wish. It's already set up by a visionary type...a member of this group I do believe....for Old Dodge and Plymouth lovers. And, the map covers the entire world so we can see where the Down Under cars as well as those in the cold frozen Canadian northlands and those in the "Old Countries" to the way east of us are located. Maybe we will even get some from the other continents as well. Now that's communicating. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 you have to invert your monitor to see the cars down under.... Quote
greg g Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 here is the link that worked for me. Sayshey moved to a new domain/server so maybe that's the problem with old bookmarks. http://www.frappr.com/vintageplymouthdodgeowners Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 I think the reason some people can't see the map now is because they haven't upgraded their Flash Player. I just went on the site and it says I must upgrade to Flash 8 to view the map. Wasn't that important to me since I don't browse the web much, so didn't upgrade. I don't upgrade just to view a web site. They should "KEEP IT SIMPLE, DAMN IT!! Squse my French. Quote

The map images weren't working for me either yesterday, although the rest of the frapper site was. Today, it's back and working just fine. Something must have been amis with Google maps yesterday. Seems your flash player is a seperate issue. Pete Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 still down here..no flash player alrms going off...am thinking it may be an image blocked by the firewall.. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 It could be some peoples firewall causing the problem as Tim mentioned. I started using Firefox about a month or so ago. I've had to make a few adjustments with it to view pictures too. As for the Flash player issue. When I tried to view the frapper map using Firefox I simply got a blank space where the map should be. No boxes came up saying I needed to upgrade the Flash Player. I then switched over to MS Explorer and that's when I got the message that the Flash Player needed to be upgraded. So that could be why some people aren't seeing that message. Maybe their browser didn't show it like Firefox didn't. In both cases though, I could view the 85 cars posted there if I wanted. The map just wouldn't come up. Quote
claybill Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 i am sure there is a software for zipcodes. (we used them at our college to locate good students.) try staples or someplace for a zip code directory. that is good because it does not reveal your address just town and state. claybill Quote
Rodger S-11 Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Hola All I live here in Colo Spgs and have never tried to hide it. In the summers I have gone to the neighbors and asked them if they minded if some vintage car person could back into and use part of their drive-way. All the neighbors then too were invited for burnt hamburgers and hot dogs. In the end, the neighbors like the idea of an 1940 De Soto, a 1969 Dodge Sweptline or an Flat-Head NY'er parked out front. This also works if the street is full of gleaming G-Wings or maybe an bump bump bump bump rumbling six-pac GTX or the like. The drivers like it too since it gives them an chance to show off their ride. And yes, I've invited all and only three have stopped by and none of them had an working phone. David Maxwell Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 ...for wanting to keep their locale anonymous, and everyone certainly has a right to. However, I feel most fears of putting your info on the net are unfounded. I'm happy to share my info with anyone on the forum or off the forum if they're into old Mopars! Pete, I loved your map and would like to see it added as a component of this site. Norm, I understand your disappointment regarding those who didn't attend, but hey, I would love to see six P15 or D24 owners get together here in Santa Maria on a normal day. How cool would that be? Heck, I've been trying to get a handful of fat-fendered owners of any make to get together in my town. Lots of old cars, but nobody can seem to match their schedules up. Guess it's just a sign of the times Anything we can do to make a get-together easier is a huge plus in my book! Quote
Ed Griffin Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 The number one legitimate reason to not show exactly where one lives would be to keep your car from being stolen I would think. Just as we get spammers now and then I'm sure their are those who find exact addressed locales as an invitation to free shopping for someones car. It can happen any time, any where, any how but there are those who do nothing but look for old cars to steal and showing an exact address is only an invitation to yours. Beside that fact I agree that Pete's map is very useful in knowing the proximity of where folks are. It can be very helpful incase you wanted to email someone near by for whatever reason. They can then decide if they want it to be known exactly where they live and on an individual basis. If I were to be the one running this website and someone ended up with their car stolen because the theives had a map to know exactly where to go. I would not only feel guilty for letting this happen but possibly be liable for providing it. The map was a great idea on Pete's behalf and I agree it would be a nice addition to the site. But it would be wise just to limit the information needed to get on the map for those who know no better. City and State is all you really need or if your like me and dont live in the city you can use the closest one. That all depends on just how secure you feel of what to provide for others, not just us, to see. Quote
Johnny S Posted March 2, 2007 Author Report Posted March 2, 2007 Ed, I agree. When I started this thread I never contemplated address specific information as an option. While our Plymouths and Dodges may not be high on the list for thieves at the moment it would certainly make them more vulnerable unnecessarily and sometimes ease of target is more important than value. My needs are satisfied with a general vicinity only which I believe Tim Adams mentioned.....for me something like....northern colorado...although I'm not worried about narrowing it further to my actual city location. Zip code would work as well and you could even give one in the city that isn't your own (I think we have 3 or 4 in the city limits here) if that was an option in your area. That said.....I really do like the Frappr map. It's a little clunky and quirky but once you get the feel of it it does do what I personally was looking for. Johnny S - Colorado Quote
