greg g Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Seems that out state will be wrenched from the depths of it financial crisis through the expedient of no longer making pens available for use by customers at the counters. Between shortening the life of the ink supplies by having foks sign their checks and fill in their forms, some people have actually been helping themselves and taking pens with them as the leave. Think of the untold millions of dollars this will save. So in addition to getting a healty ration of bureacratic BS, having been told you paper work isn't complete, being overcharged, and dealt with by some of the rudest folks alive, now you GOTTA BRING YOUR OWN PEN. Funny they still provide pencils to fill in the Quick Draw Lotto cards. The last great idea the goveror had was the imposition of a surcharge for folks who had the gaul to go to the DMV instead of doing business online. Guess he didn't feel that would be descriminating against people who didn't have computers or access to the internet. His answer was to go to the library and use their computers to access the DMV on line. Quote
greg g Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Shel I am going to the dollar store tomorrow and buy a package of PENS for PATTERSON. I will send them to his office and direct that they be sent to the neediest DMV in the state. He will probably be overcharged to get them there. I will also send a check to the Commision for the Blind so as not to deprive them of their pen sales revenue. Support PENS FOR PATTERSON its vital for our state's survival. Quote

His answer was to go to the library and use their computers to access the DMV on line. That's funny about the pens. But.....that wouldn't bother me. I always carry my own anyway. They charge you a couple of bucks extra here too if you go into the DMV for your license plates. However, they allow you to mail it in without an extra fee, you don't have to use a computer to go online. The state of PA also forces people to go online for filing their business taxes, or use a telefile system over the phone talking to a computer. So.......since we are required to file there because we have a physical presence in the state, we use the the telefile system. Of course we have internet to do it, but.........just like with my personal finances, I don't do things on the internet for business either. Even Wisconsin is slowly converting to doing the same thing PA is doing. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Have you ever noticed that some places have a kinda large flower attached to the end of their pens? That, of course, is to deter folks from sticking them in their pocket (either accidentally or on purpose). Sorta goofy, but I suspect it works. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Does NYS DMV still have those pen vending machines to benefit a charity? I remember them from years ago. Quote
T120 Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 ...I bought a vintage motorcycle 2 years ago - last registered in New Hampshire, USA . I telephoned the number of their DMV.I was pleasantly surprised when my call was picked up on the second ring and I spoke with a very pleasant and efficient lady who answered all of my questions and emailed me the information I needed. It's frustrating to deal with automated answering and other changes in the name of progress - makes a person wonder where their tax dollars are spent Quote

Press 1 for this answer, press 2 for this answer, etc. The answer you are looking for is not part of the automated system but in order to get to a human being (who can most likely not answer any logical question) one must continue pressing buttons while my phone bill increases for every button click. norrism1 Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 We just started putting a chunk of tape or a sticker on the tops of our pens. We had tried putting out the pens with the beaded chains attached to them so that someone would not put it in their pocket by mistake. 4 out of 5 missing in the first week. Bank and the drug store been doing that here for months. Putting a sticker or tape on the ends. shell_bizzy_48, I was at the post office in town Saturday and they had plastic spoons taped to the pens on the counter. Something new!! Quote
