Dan Babb Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 I'm debating on wheels. Not sure if I should keep it stock looking or maybe get some new wheels and wider tires. I saw one truck in the gallery that looks pretty cool. Anyone else have pictures of aftermarket wheels? What size & backspace did you go with? Want to make sure whatever I get fits right. I don't want to go too big, but there are a lot more tire choices in a 17" wheel out there. Might try to keep it cheap and find some take-offs from a modern truck. What modern trucks can you pull wheels off of that would be a good fit. Ride Height - is there an easy way to lower the ride height a bit on these trucks? Quote

grey beard Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Dan, Don't mean to be a pessimist, but if you have a 4:10 rear axle ratio like most of us here do, you may wish to err on the side of larger diameter rubber, rather than lowering the thing. Your choice, but my own has 215 x 85.16's on the original 4.5 inch width rims. Makes it sit a few inches higher, but I wanted the added diameter to help lower the crankshaft speed on the highway. Right now she's happy at 60 mph, but happier at 55. Here's a shot of mine in the mud at the Macungie, PA show this past summer. Let us know what you choose. Good Luck Quote

Dennis_MN Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I checked the wheels on my 2000 Ranger and they have the same bolt pattern as the Dodge wheel. All you would need to do is to drill a hole for the little peg that holds the wheel while you put in the studs. By the way, I kept the stock wheels but added Radials, same size as quoted by Grey Beard. Rides lovely but the speed o meter runs slower than actual. I add 10 miles per hour to the number displayed.
