greg g Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 What it doesn't do well is steer. Started the Studie and let it run for a while in the drive way, then drove it to the end of the driveway and reversed it back, and pulled it into the garage tother way too, so i can work othe rear lights and ebrake stuff. So its now on the Norm Plan. Had to prime it to start, but then it got going and settled to a decent idle, alt is working, elecric fuel pump seems to be ok, Oil pressure good and park drive and reverse work. Guess I will need to see if I can get the old grease out of the king pins and get them freed up a bit, the steering is very hard and notchy feeling. Got an oil leak I will heed to investivate, looks like it may be as simple as the drain plug. It also has an intermittant back fire at the tail pipe on the drivers side. It will pop every 30 to 40 seconds, then be quiet then pop three or 4 times in a row and then be quiet. Perhaps an intake leak, or a funky plug wire. Plugs are new wires are those accel yellow jobs of unknown vintage. short video here http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xatydz_mvi0711 Quote

Normspeed Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) One of the great moments in the car-nut profession! That motor looks real clean Greg. PS, let her run a while before making any judgements about how she runs. Takes a while to blow out the cobwebs. Edited October 17, 2009 by Normspeed Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Yeah, probly just an exhaust valve sticking. Needs driving. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Congrats on the running part. Hopefully your other problems won't be too great. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Looking good, Greg, and you sure have come a long way. Is that a Studebaker engine or other make. I know it's not a SBC. Quote
greg g Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 Robert, it is a Studebaker 259. From the number it from a 63 Canadian manufactured Lark. I has the full flow oiling system with a spin on filter. The carb is an AFB, original was a wcfb, but they are hard to find and expensive as they were also used on early Vettes and other Gm performance engines. Supposidly it rated at 195 HP and 240 lb ft of torque. trans is Gm 700r 4 out of a 90 Caprice, the rearend is a from a T bird, has disc brakes all around. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Should be a fun vehicle. We have a couple of members in the car club I belong to who own Studebaker pickups. Studebakers always seemed to be ahead of their time. Good cars but poorly run company. Quote
John Mulders Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Good to hear Greg, but.....is this another driveway queen John Quote
