p24-1953 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 okay i have developed a new problem. i have a 53' w/ hydrive. when you put it into reverse as you let off the clutch with the brakes on, the car makes a loud thuds and physical shakes just for a slplit second. what could be causing this? clutch? transmission failing? if i had to describe the sound i would say it sound and feels like if i had a broken motor mount and the engine was shifting. p24-1953 Posted October 11, 2009 Author Report Posted October 11, 2009 havnt checked them, but wouldnt they "clunk " in forward also? Quote
Phil Martin Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I had a hydrive many years ago. As I remember it did the same thing until reverse went out completely. Luckily back then they were in junk yards and not hard to find. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Just curious, ever thought of going to a standard three on the tree? There are lots out there and you would be rid of the tough to fix, hard to find hy-drive? Would you need a different flywheel, bell housing, crank? Just curious as I said. Quote
p24-1953 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 i have been told that it is difficult to convert back to a standard three. I drove it today and the clunk was not as noticble as today. I hope that it is not the transmission going out. that would be a tough one to replace. Quote
p24-1953 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 Would you need a different flywheel, bell housing, crank? Just curious as I said. yes, yes, and yes, and a differnt clutch i think Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I think there is a hole in the back of the block that feeds engine oil under pressure to the trans. That would have to be blocked off too. Am I remebering right? Quote
