1949P17BC Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Does anyone make "new" 16 inch steel wheels that have the tabs to accept stock hubcaps? Quote
P15Mike Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Mark , not that i've seen or heard . I'm looking for a couple myself . I need a spare for the trunk and another for a 'spare " for safekeeping . When i went up to Carlisle this past week i ran into a guy who has a couple p-15's . He's rodding one and selling the stuff that he's not using off both . He thought that one has 16's and maybe the other did too . I wont be able to get out there till the end of the month , i'll keep you posted if you haven't found anything by then . Mike Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Guys, there was just another thread the other day in the Parts Wanted section that someone was looking for wheels. Thomas Russom said he had some. You might contact him. His email is tmrussom@yahoo.com If that doesn't work, send him a message from his profile. Quote
martybose Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Some of the wheel companies (Stockton Wheel comes to mind) can take a stock center and put a new rim on it, and sometimes they can take a 15" rim center and put a 16" rim on it. More legwork advised! Marty Quote
HalfdollarMayflower Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 I wouldn't use Stockton if they were the last wheel company around. Do an internet search about their customer service...lost wheels, incorrect backspacing, long waits, etc. Quote
Rollie Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 I've talked to someone who had problems when it came to stockton, maybe this place would have them: http://www.wheelvintiques.com Quote
Dennis_MN Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 I have a 16" rim from a 48 Chrysler sitting in my garage. I spent $35 on it at French Lake auto, and cleaned it up and primed it only to find out that it is not the correct rim for my 48 Dodge pickup. I need a 4.5 inch wide rim so off to the swap meets I go. I was thinking of using this car rim for a hose reel in case my wife asks, 'what are you going to do with that thing'. Dennis Quote
Young Ed Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Dennis what is the diff between the 48 chrysler one and a 48 pickup one? Did you see the measurements I posted? Quote
Dennis_MN Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Dennis what is the diff between the 48 chrysler one and a 48 pickup one? Did you see the measurements I posted? Ed, I did see the measurements you posted, but they seemed too wide. The 16" Automobile rim is 4 inches wide, and the 16' pickup rim is 4 1/2 inches wide. Actual measurement of a 16 inch rim is just a tad over 17 inches. The markings on the rim that I have is Budd Rim 16 x 4.00 L44755-E-1-8 Dennis Quote
PatrickG Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 check into Rally America, www.rallyamerica.com i have not dealt with them personally, and off the top of my head don't know for sure if they carry exactly what you're looking for, but they're similar to stockton and wheel vintiques, except I've never heard a single bad thing about them. if nothing else the owners are reportedly very knowledgeable and I'm sure could steer you in the right direction Quote

I have 1 or 2 that are 5in overall. Might be about 4.5 between Quote

Young Ed Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 I think we're putting cars away for winter so I will probably be at the cabin for part of it. Not sure how much we're staying. Quote
