I was putting in my gas tank and I don't think I ever noticed this before but is it supposed to sit so close to the exhaust pipe?

It seems as hot as the pipe gets it can't be good. Somehow I didn't notice it when I took the tank off.

Just curious.

3 inches ought to be plenty of air space..however is you think it is still a bit close..place a heat shield on a stand-off attached to the exhaust pipe with 1 inch clear space bewteen the pipe and the shield..that will leave you two inches..I feel you will find the tank cool to the touch after a run...
