Don Coatney Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Yesterday evening was the last 2009 Friday night cruise in sponsored by the "Murfreesboro Hot Rod Club". The Boro fire department brought there ariel ladder truck and elevated a couple of the club members to take pictures. In the first picture I am just arriving (top right side of the picture). I parked next to a really nice 1941 Plymouth 2 door sedan. I spoke with the owner and he told me he built the car himself and it is powered by a Mopar 360 complete with air conditioning and all the other good stuff for a comfortable cruiser. I asked if he had taken any long trips in the car and he told me he has been on a couple of 50-60 mile trips. Enjoy the pictures. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Don, I believe we still have one more annual show around here that is scheduled about next weekend. One would think living where you do, you guys could probably go through November with the cruise ins since it's usually warmer down by you. Anyway, looks like a decent turn out. For those living around me, I'm talking about the show in Saukville, put on by the Saukville Fire department at the park on the main drag in downtown Saukville. Quote
greg g Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 So I guess your got back from Arizona. Are you home for a bit??? Met up with Chet at the POC meet, went to a microbrew fest. Had a good time sipping some brews and chewing the fat. We have a couple more deals around here before the winter sets in. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 being the first Saturday of the month we should have a local cruise..I have not been to one in about 2 years...seems I am always doing other things...like today...lol I tend to get all my atuomotive needs met with swap meet/show/car corrals..best bang for the buck.. Norm's Coupe Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) Like Tim, I do enjoy swap meets combined with the show. At least you can buy a car or parts at those, if you want. But........the cruise ins are nice too. Those usually are free, plus you can pick up something to eat, then look at the cars. When finished you can just leave as no awards are given out. Most will give out some kind of drawing prizes every 30 to 60 minutes. But........those prizes are usually just some trinket or coupon that isn't worth sticking around for. So.....Tim, you also get a bang for your buck out of the cruise in since it's free to begin with. Some shows are nice too, like that Saukville one I was talking about. That one is more like an all day picnic. They have a band under a tent playing music all day with a dancing area, of course the cars to look at parked in the park, motorcycle show included, a few vendors selling small car stuff, craft vendors for the ladies, and food & beverage vendors to fill your stomach. The entrance fee for entering your car is only $5 or $10, and they also give out nice trophies at that show. Cars do not have to be original to win any of the trophies. Does have to be an old car though, no modern cars allowed in the show area. So, you get a good bang for your buck at this one too. You'll see real nice cars there, and those that are a work in progress. All proceeds of the show go to the Fire department who donates the money to charity. Plymouthy Adams Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 our local curise is right next to my favorite Mexican restuarant..odds are if and when I attend I will be taking in dinner at the same time..It only takes a minute or two to see the cars..the car would have to be really differnt for me to linger a bit...9 times out of 10 it is a seen one seen them all show so may explain the loss of interest to attend..there was only one such car at the last show and the most exciting thing there was a tear drop trailer..that item was very nicely done and well deserved a close inspection. The music on the average is a tad loud...the 50/50 cash pot is of interest if you plan sticking around bit..a few door prizes get handed out from a few of the local sponsors..that takes a bit of behind the scenes footwork to collect by the way... Norm's Coupe Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Tim, I do about the same as you. Eat something first, then walk around looking at the cars for about 20 to 30 minutes, then leave the cruise in. I will agree, the music is usually way too loud. But.......do as I do. We usually keep our distance from the band. That way, it's not that loud. Even at weddings we go to, we always find a seat as far away from the band as possible. I remember going to one wedding back in the 90's that we got stuck in a smaller reception hall. Even sitting at the back of the room was too loud. Went out into the foyer of the hall and the music was still too loud. So.........we left and came home. Quote

Rodney Bullock Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Hey Don, these next few weeks are crunch time for shows around here, I have been working on my Ford and finally got it out the drive way. The wife and I went to a all ford show today, tomorrow we will be at the soilder's army/navy retirement home show. We go every year. These showa are put together for the shut-in at the hospital. The Dulles airport had a show today, they call it a plane pull as some of the corporate folks get together to see who can pull a plane the farthest. The 17 Oct will be the Rockville show, that's the show you were at I think last year. The weather is supposed to be good so that's a big one. Lot's of hi dollar cars to see. I have been helping a friend of mine with his 41 Stude so I have not had alot of free time. The cruz spots around here will go on until the end of November:D or the first snow. Enjoy them while you can. Quote
