Cpt.Fred Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 good morning from over here! a friend of mine is on a plane to north carolina and offered me to buy a good drum puller for me and bring it over. now when i read the tech tips there was a puller mentioned that was purchased at napa for around 12o$. i have been digging on the napa homepage for quite some time now, still found nothing... does anyone here by any chance know the napa parts number? thanks!! fred Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I just had a look through our Napa Tools & Equipment Catalog. Heavy-Duty Universal Wheel Hub Puller SER2251 is what you want. Napaonline.com shows it at $243.99 Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 OH MY I think at that price I would rent one for 15 dollars unless you have a shop full of old Chrysler products. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 thanks merle! but:eek::eek: prices gone up a little? no puller for my pocket. Quote
Zeke1953 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I have this one - looks identical to the one from NAPA and less money. http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/ShopCart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_CAT268_pg3.htm Zeke Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I have one like Merle shows. Only paid $20 for it from a garage that was going out of business. I've also seen brand new ones at swap meets for $50. The ones at the swap meet were from government surplus. Guy had a whole 4 x 6 foot trailer full of them early in the morning. By about 2 PM when I passed by that booth again, he only had two or three left. Keep an eye on ebay. They pop up every now and then. They are also used to pull Ford drums. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 i did, but most people on the bay don't want to ship stuff abroad. won't even let you bid on it... especially with heavy stuff like this puller. they didn't use these here, or so it seems. you don't see them around too often, in fact i only saw one and that was too expensive. well, well. i'll just have to wait... would have been a good opportunity with my pal over in NC. anyway, thanks guys! Cpt.Fred Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 already destroyed one of those:mad: i'm happy i didn't damage the fender or hurt myself... Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I bought a cheap Chinese one and it worked fine though I keep reading horror stories about not getting those drums off (to go along with the water distribution tube horror stories). When I first got the car on '03 I had my mechanic go over all the stuff to make sure I didn't have anything unsafe going on. One of the things he did was to pull the drums to check the brakes. I'm wondering if the fact that it was pulled about 5 years ago makes the difference. For anyone who has had a tough time pulling your drums... do you suppose it had sat a long time and froze? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Jim, You hit it on the head. Once you get the drums off, the second time it doesn't take much effort at all. One or two whacks with the hammer and the drum is off. Now.........the first time I almost had to beat the puller to death to get the drums off. Took about a week or so of hammering, about an hour or two almost every night that first time. Quote
Tom Skinner Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Cpt. Fred, As already stated, keep an Eye out on Ebay they are about $55 S&H included. NAPA would just love to sell you one but you can do much better. They are not that heavy for Shipping purposes. Tom Quote
