55 Fargo Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Hi all, Canadian Tire in Canada had the hand held laser temp readers on sale, they were $29.00, on sale from $99.00. Although I really do not need one per say, could not resist at that price. I had the 47 with me too, got home aftera highwaydrive, outside ambient temp about 82, engine temp gauge was close to 180, as I was going with the wind, and my engine always heats upa little more going down wind. My engine temp with the laser at the rear, right beside the temp gauge sending unit was reading 171, when idling after a good run, so not bad at all. The rad was all over, form 160s up top to spots of 111 in the middle, and warmer on the outside areas, but progressively cooler from top to bottom. Not sure why my rad had temps of 111 in some ares in the middle. The exhaust manifold was around 400. Love this little gadget, really cool item, for the money...... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) I got mine for 9.00..works like a champ...was extremely surprised at the accuracy..you may have the better unit for sure...I am not sure how high mine will read..have not tested any manifolds..does have two heat ranges... Don Coatney Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 I bought one to test product temperature at a food company I once worked for. It did not work well for the application intended. But it works great for indicating engine temperatures on my Plymouth. Also works great for indicating temperatures in my 1938 Kelvinator refrigerator or my heat lamp. Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 Yah these little gadgets work really neat, right now it's a 106 at the front of my house on the brick facing west, 84 on the north side on the house siding. The mail box is black and is 108. So although the sun is at a different angle, more like fall the temps are more like summer, supposed to be 88 tomorrow, and this is prairie Canada, not supposed to be this warm here toward the end of Sept, should be 65 to 70 and thats about it...... Hey Fred, when were those on sale? If they still are, I will head out to the Canadian Tire near where I live and pick one up. Quote
Normspeed Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Don, what's the optimum operating temp for a still? Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Don, what's the optimum operating temp for a still? Need a cool condensing temperature so one can taste proof the hooch:cool: Quote
RobertKB Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Hey Fred, when were those on sale? If they still are, I will head out to the Canadian Tire near where I live and pick one up. Went out and got one for the sale price. It will be interesting to compare temp gauges readings in my cars with the laser sensor readings. Don, if you ship me a little hooch, I will take the temp for you before and after drinking. I assume though that the after drinking temp will be 98.6F (37 Celsius). It would be a little higher right now, as I have a wonderful cold I got from my wonderful 2 year old grandson. They sure are little germ bags at that age. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 the higher on the stack you can condense the steam..the higher the proof of the drip..otherwise it is a recook of the distilled drip to further concentrate the drip .. Quote
stylinmike Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 You also inspired me to go pick one up. It'll be great for the 5 minute drive I need to take the car on in the next few days to the shop. My temp gauge isn't working, so I'll carry it with me and make sure I'm not overheating. When I bought it I walked around for 10 minutes reading the temperature of everything, haha. Quote
RobertKB Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 When I bought it I walked around for 10 minutes reading the temperature of everything, haha. I did exactly the same. Even checked my body temperature and it was right on! Quote
