1949P17BC Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Stoped and looked at several of the modern Tear Drop Trailers. The smaller units weigh between 800 and 1600 lbs. How much can a 47 Sean, with 16 inch tires, and 390 gears with OD handle? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 unless you are doing an extreme amount of hills with the trialer laden..I would think the car would have little problem with a trailer upward to 1200 lbs...the main problem in towing is the increase demand on your braking system..I seriously doubt that the smaller retro teardrops have any provision for electric brakes.. Niel Hoback Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 There's an interesting display of electric brakes at the local TSC. It looks like you could put them on anything you might want. Quote

Normspeed Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 My old teardrop is probably a bit heavier, it's based on a welded iron frame with aluminum skin. Like Tim says, pulling it is not a problem, I pull mine in overdrive with a 4.10 rear end. Stopping can be a little dicey though, especially on a short downhill freeway off ramp with a stoplight at the end. That's with a full load of gear in the car and a small boat and outboard motor loaded as well. Overall they stop ok if you allow for the additional weight but a disc brake upgrade or some electric trailer brakes would be money well spent. Quote
claybill Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 my little guy trailer weighs 8-900 lbs pulls easily..in the country it brakes ok. havent tried city braking yet!!!! my traler has a longer tongue than most i see. aligns nicely, backs up nicely. bill Quote
dezeldoc Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Well you could always put disc brakes on the trailer, that would cure the problem and help stop the car a little better! http://www.trailerpart.com/adddiscbrakes.htm http://www.championtrailers.com/brkart.html Quote
