rolliejoe
finally scored a 230 for the Plymouth, bought it from a super nice guy off the Hamb. Came out of a '55 Coronet, exciting times.
BobT-47P15
Congratulations on your find. I see it has one of those 6 bladed fans, which I imagine was original to the engine. I put a 6 blade fan on the engine in the early 49 coupe. However, someone gave a reason or two why that's not necessarily a better thing. So, one day when the opportunity arises, I'm going to change back to the original 4 blade.
radioguy7
Ok, you got me, gotta ask....Why is a 4 blade fan better than a 6 blade fan??
Jerry Roberts
Ok, you got me, gotta ask....Why is a 4 blade fan better than a 6 blade fan?? Someone posted earlier that a six blade fan is much noisier than a four .

Levand16
Is this the same 230 that came in the 47 dodge coupes? If so, what is the value of those things... I have two that I wouldn't mind parting with if I could get enough money to buy other parts.

It now lives in a 46 Fargo 3 ton I used to own...now belongs to my nephew. I also have collected a couple of blocks along the way for free. The first one I got I paid $450 for...WWAAYY too much $$$ (All 251's by the way) Edited July 13, 2009 by PatS....

Young Ed
Sweet I've been keeping my eye out for one of those automatic adaptors.
Cpt.Fred
nice one, rolliejoe! how big do these 23"blocks get over the years, anyway? i'd like to replace my 201cui one day, maybe next year, but i want to keep the car as original as possible, so no cutting and welding... are the 230s and 251s the same blocks like my little old 84horses? Young Ed
The 23" block received a bigger bore to make it a 218 and then later a stroke job to make it 230CI. Never heard of anyone doing it but you can convert a 218 to a 230 with crank and rod swap. So I wonder if you can bore a 201 and add 230 crank and rods to it. Cpt.Fred
hmm, i guess i better keep the old lady wrapped up in nice, oily rags in a clean place and go for another motor, have that one hopped up (some folks keep telling me about stroker kits around here:rolleyes:) and put it in. might be a nice sleeper car. i also bet it will be the best to save some $ and have everything done in a decent shop over at your side of the pond, because here the shops are way too expensive! but if i really change the engine, i'd like the biggest i can get to have a noticeable difference. Reg Evans
I think the 201's have smaller valves so boring and stroking wouldn't help much. A 23" long 230 will drop right in and it can be bored out for another 10 cubes at least.
