Hi,

A quick thanks for all who keep this forum operating.

I found this site by complete accident (searching for steering wheel swap information) for my old 1960 Dodge 1 ton dually. I also have a 1940 Dodge Business Coupe.

The truck has a 440 cu in in it with the stock 4 speed tranny and a GM 3/4 ton rear end. It used to be my Father's truck. He did all the conversions to it. I've had it for about 15 years now and just recently started civilizing it with radial tires, A/C refurbishing, new bucket seats, etc. Installed the old 5th wheel hitch the other day and plan to use it for hauling my Komfort 17F camping trailer.

The coupe has the larger Chrysler flat head six with dual exhaust headers, Edmonds aluminum head and three carb intake manifold (two are currently blanked off though). It also has an overdrive unit from a 53 Plymouth in it. I put the OD unit in back in the mid sixties when I was ~14-15 years old. It's a good highway cruiser with the OD engaged and very powerful with the bigger engine. This car was my first car but has been sitting since 96 in my garage. Ran fine when I parked her there, but the OD unit is currently stuck in direct and won't move. Also needs a new gasket on the oil pump cause it leaks oil some. In case someone has pondered an engine swap to the bigger six, the frame was pre-drilled 2" further forward for the front mount at the factory and you simply remove and reinstall the radiator on the front side of the channel iron. I forget if you just spin the channel around or if I had to drill holes, but it was a simple swap (back in the sixties) when I did it.

Anyway, both vehicles need TLC (body, interior and paint) but run well.

This site is really terrific! I've had mine so long I pretty-much have experienced many of the problems I see posted to some degree. Good solid advice I see here.

Thanks,

Rich

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you will be giving advice rather than asking as you know these old girls well. Also sounds like you have two nice vehicles and the will to work on them. You will enjoy this forum for the help given when needed and just the fun of a bunch of old car nuts. Some of the best threads are when things get "off topic".

Welcome to the forum Rich. You've found one of the best sites going.

Hey....I use to be your neighbor. I lived in Benicia up until '79 when we decided to sell the sign shop and move up to the foot hills to build houses.

Post some photos when you get a chance. We'd love to see them.

Welcome aboard. I have also installed a long block Desoto flathead in my Plymouth P-15. My swap was not so easy as I had to modify my front cross member for vibration damper clearance. Post pictures when you get a chance.
