Slick Steve Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 Once your original goes out, how hard is it to find a replacement? Anybody selling new ones? Thanks Quote
oldmopar Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 Not hard to find one I have a few on a shelf and if its not a show car for points you can switch to a alternator. There is a vendor selling 6 volt alternators forget who has them maybe 5th avenue Quote
steveplym Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Yeah it is 5th avenue. I've got a couple rebuilt ones on the shelf. A few I don't need too. Quote
TodFitch Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 As long as you don't overload them generators are very reliable. Brushes wear a bit and maybe clean the commutator from time to time. If you overload them and get them too hot then they can be damaged. So if you have factory stock loads a generator should last a long, long time. And there are still motor and generator repair shops so getting a "new" one may take a few days while they rebuild yours. I had that done in the 1970s "just because", still running fine 35 years later. Quote
