Norm's Coupe Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 While I would not pay that much for any old car, it probably is worth it, even if it does need a little work. Did you read the ad carefully. It's not just a convertible, it's a Roadster Convertible with only a front seat. No rear seat. Those are really hard to find. Wasn't many of those made. So........it makes that car worth more than just an ordinary convertible that does have a back seat. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 The deal with those 49 Dodge Wayfarer converts is that the first several they made had removable isenglass take-out windows on the doors.....no roll-up glass. No wing window. They were considered, therefore, a "roadster". That seems to be what brings the most money now. But, after a period of time, during the 49 model year, they determined that those windows weren't such a hot deal, and switched to a glass wing window and glass roll-up windows. May have even retro-fitted some with glass when the car was still pretty new. The Wayfarer was the cheaper Dodge model, anyway, so they were like a business coupe convertible with only one seat. While in college in the 1960s I bought a 1950 Wayfarer convertible, not running, but complete for $75. Kept it for several years - never got it running. Finally sold it to a collector in Pennsylvania. It had a home made back seat. It had the glass windows. Before I learned the difference between what constituted a roadster and convertible in these cars, I was corrected by guys when calling mine a roadster. This is the one I had. Original dark green color, with a cheapie re-do of the interior in red vinyl. Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I looked at this pair of Roadsters several momths back. The owner wanted $3500 for the pair. Too bad I was doughless. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Appear to be the true "roadsters".....no wing windows. At least they were in that carport/shed somewhat out of the weather. Quote
