knighthawk Posted July 18, 2007 Author Report Posted July 18, 2007 can I separate the inner fender from the outer fender ? I'd like to leave the inner fender on, while I build the car, and I would have more room to work if the outer fenders were off. Looks like to me, it would only require cutting some spotwelds.Am I correct ??? Quote
Johnny S Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 It looks like you are heading for a very nice look....... Quote
Young Ed Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 On the plymouths the inner and outer fenders bolt together. I had mine all apart and painted up. Here is in progress of being reassembled. BTW all the black paint on the frame and body panels is rustoleum that we sprayed with a harbor freight HVLP. Quote
knighthawk Posted July 18, 2007 Author Report Posted July 18, 2007 yup , that's what I want ! I just been taking the whole front clip off and on till now. I assume then, that the inner fenders do not fasten to the cowl ? And that both upper rear mounting brackets are for the fenders only ? Quote
knighthawk Posted July 18, 2007 Author Report Posted July 18, 2007 after a closer look, I see the spot welds that i was looking at, are for the mounting brackets for the fender mount and hood latch operator. What I don't see , is any support for the inner fender at the rear, after i take the outer fender off. I assume I will have to make support bracket ? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 (edited) Got a few updated photos from Larry this evening..at his request I post them here for all to see..Larry is going great guns on this project...Going to be a nice custom... Edited May 20, 2017 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
knighthawk Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 Thanks, Tim......... What do you guys think so far ? I need some help deciding on what grill and bumper to use... I'm thinking maybe an oval grill of some kind. ?????............... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 There's the 49-50 Nash style...... There's 54 Buick style.... A Dodge coupe....... Tubular style...........could be in an oval opening. A 53 Chevy grille is oval to begin with...... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 55 Chevy's are sorta oval.............. This Chrysler guy invented his own style...... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 While Larry's approach to the car may find disfavor with those who like originality..his dedication and accomplishments speak volumes. Not only is there a chopped car pictured but also a fully modified front suspension with Volare sub-frame..if anyone has ever looked at the work going into a sub-frame of this nature on these Doge/Plymouth frames, rest assured it is not easy on this frame as compared to the straight frames of the trucks they are more popular with in retrofitting. And to think this has been accomplished since his first question in November of 2006 Unless he has been sandbagging us....!! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Come on Bob...don't you know your ABC's of rodding Mopars????? lol Quote
knighthawk Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 Each example has it's good points, I kinda like the Nash ( it's growing on me ) also like the '55 chevy...................can't have very much chrome, as it will all flat black , I think..... also has to be '' low budget '' . Tim is right, in the fact that this is purely a custom or modified project, and started out as just a rusted shell in the cow pasture . It's kind of an experiment , frenched , shaved , chopped, etc. Everything so far has come the '85 5th Ave....ie.. suspension, drivetrain, steering, brakes, and hopefully the interior with electric seats and windows. knighthawk Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 kind of a up date with a question: am getting the body smooth and ready for some paint. Am going to use John Deere 'Blitz Black". It's a satin finish enamel and only cost $27 a gallon and reducer is $15........................Question ; thinking ahead here, what is required for back up lites ? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 1. A place to put either one or two of them to your liking. 2. Often times needs a hole in the fender or area next to trunk lid for the housing and wiring. Some only require a smaller hole for wire. 3. Backup light switch in your transmission linkage to activate those lights when car put into reverse. Or you could simply put a toggle switch below the dash to turn them on manually. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 This person used a single light attached to the gravel pan. I think these were purchased thru the MoPar dealer as an aftermarket option. Think they need a hold at least the diameter of a quarter. Nash grille in area salvage. Quote
knighthawk Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 the grille looks intresting............... back up lites : mainly trying to decide how many ? Also as long as the headlites are 'frenched' if the taillites should be, and maybe using '50 Pontiac tail lites, ( round ) what backup lites would work and where to put them ........May have to go to Joplin to find a salvage yard, nearest one here is Coffeyville, 50 miles away !
