Tim,

Evidently this guy isn't into old cars. The article says he's into collector motorcycles. So........that's why you see no lift in there. However, the article did say there is a motorcycle lift in the garage. As for saving money, don't think that's a problem for this guy based on the location of that garage. Most of the houses out there are in the million dollar plus range.

Still that's a lot of money to spend to build a show garage that no one see's, except for a few select people. Did you notice the natural stained wood stairs going to the loft? Wonder how long they'll look that nice?

Norm..while you just go to and fro and look see at the toys..stairs ought to stay nice for awhile..not like grease and oil and metal grindings and bondo dust will see the area...location is everything..just happy I know I don't have to spend that much for a few sq feet of space...this remodel I am inot is coming along nicely and still not eating a lot of green...if I were to contract it out...well lets just say it would not get done ever...my neighbor has help me a bit and taken a bit off my shoulders as I could never do that section by myself in the short time between the bad weather we have been having..

If he lived here and parked his everyday car in there the floor would be a mess in no time. Lots of chemicals, sand, gravel, slush, etc. would be deposited. Total waste of money as far as I am concerned. Like Tim says, you can build a real garage a lot cheaper.

Robert,

Same here. That garage is in Wisconsin, just west of Milwaukee. The article also said the smaller garage is to be torn down after this one is complete. That has to mean he's going to park his everyday cars in there. So........you are correct, that garage floor is going to be a mess when all the ice and salt starts melting on it. Especially, if he doesn't clean it up right away. If that is a good quality coating on the floor, it should not hurt the structure of the coating. However, the salt sitting on it for long periods of time will dull the finish of the coating. Plus, any salt residue or dust will act as sand paper on the coating and cause the coating to dull out. You have to keep a floor like that clean all the time to keep it looking nice. That means at the very least washing it down at least once a week or more. Even if it is heated and has floor drains like the article said, I doubt the guy will want to do that.
