dezeldoc Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Find one with disc brakes then when you do the front you will have enough brakes to stop that thing!! Quote

Don Coatney Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 As a young kid you can spend your money foolishley or actually think about what you really need and spend your money wisely. Have you given any thought at all to what ratio you need or you just going to buy something, install it, and hope it works? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 follow Don's advice...it is best to get what will be known to work and work well without having to also carry a spare tire special for the rear axle...pay attention to offsets on the wheels.. just because you may have access to an item does not mean you should go around your thumb so to say to use it.. makkelsay Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 Well I had a buddy do research on the crown vic rearend because I'm not gonna make the same mistake...the dana 70 was free that's why I thought about using it From what we can tell and from what a friend of ours can tell(he had a similar rear end in his 50 desoto) itl be a perfect fit and good gear ratio...not to mention it has fords early posi trac setup Gear wise I want higher 3's since I'm not racing....no 4.11's for me haha Spare tire..ha...I never carry one...the truck I drive now doesn't have one since I have aftermarket wheels and tires and the stock wheels wouldn't work as a spare..I know its a dumb idea but if I blow a tire I have a few friends that'll help me out Quote

"i can ask dumb questions around here cause it keeps the elders on their feet" As an elder around here I must admit your above answer was as dumb as it gets so I will attempt the impossible task of keeping you on your feet. Exactly what gear ratio is this furd differential? I must assume you found the axle code so you know what you have. I assume you used one of the speed/RPM calculators to find out how fast your engine will be turning. I assume you measured your tire diameter. Or did you let your buddies do all this for you. Do you have a clue what you are doing? Quote
makkelsay Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 To tell ya the truth I don't remember writing my last post...fought a fire last night and when I got home I remember using my phone but that's it so sorry if the last post sounded dumb As far as the gear and measurements I've got it all...its all written down at the garage so ill have to get it later My buddy does know more about rearends and so on so he's helping me in that department cause if I was on my own I'd make my first mistake over and buy somethng I couldn't use I haven't gotten the crown vic rear yet and I'm not going to till I do more research Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I have seen many a car put together from many various donor cars..some were works of art..some are called rat rods and for a reason... Quote
