AJ Johnson Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Now that I have introduced myself, I can ask an off-topic question. There is an interesting car at my local police auto auction, but I can't determine what it is from this single picture. I am curious as to what it is & if it is worth taking the time off work to try & pick it up cheap. I figure someone out there will be able to tell just from the picture. Unfortunately, they won't let me just wander around the impound yard to see what it is until the day before the auction. Mystery Car AJ Quote
Ed Griffin Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Glad you posted that Tom, wasnt real sure if it was a Riviera but looked Buick to me. Also looking at the rear through the front you can somewhat make out that triangle/pointed back glass. Is that a G down on the front, left on the grille? Didnt they have a "R" hood ornament as well? Plymouthy Adams Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 could be just the angle of the picture but something sure looks a bit askew in that picture..hood/grille/bumper//not in porportion/alignment??????? Quote
AJ Johnson Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 Thanks. I may have to take the time to place a bid or two on it. Heck the if the 455 in it isn't blown it might be worth it just for the motor. They also have few motorcycles that were confiscated by the gang unit that I may have to bid on. Have a good Sunday. BobT-47P15 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Here's a picture of a '71 Riviera......looks like one in your photo. Rear end of a '71 Riviera. A '72 Riv from ebay. Quote
captden29 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 definitely a riveria. always really liked them, very distinctive cars. don't see them too often. they look like they are coming at you when you drive behind one. deserves to be back out on the road. buy it and restore it. be real careful of that back window, it may be hard to locate a replacsment. dennis Quote
greg g Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Looks like the bumper was pushed in. If I recall they had a system that collapsed on sufficient contact and then telescoped against some resistance. Once in that position it stayed there til repaired. If there is indeed a "G" on the side it could be the remains of a "GS" emblem, which was for Gran Sport, probably designating an engine, suspension, interior, and instrument upgrade package. The 455 and tranny would indeed be a keeper if it is in good shape. Not a fan of Boatail Rivs but they do have there place in the Grand Scheme of things. Quote
