rolliejoe Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 '51 Plymouth, Nile Green. For fun what color scheme should I go with? Green with green wheels: Satin black with green wheels: Satin black with red wheels: Quote
RobertKB Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Green and green. I love that colour on our cars plus it's a Mopar colour. Quote
Captain Neon Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 I've gotta agree w/ Robert. I love the pinstriping on the wheels, and I wish a PO of my P15 hadn't painted over the original pinstriping on my wheels. If you want the rat rod look (black satin w/ red wheels), please find some different rims and paint those red. There's gotta be somebody that would be glad to trade you rims. Quote
47heaven Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Green and green. I love that colour on our cars plus it's a Mopar colour. I'm with Robert...nothing looks better that repainting it original and having the rims match...classic Mopar style. The black and red looks too rockabilly. That will be a very nice shade of green when you get it repainted the same color. Quote
Fireball Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Definately green, flat black is sooooo boooooooring Quote
rolliejoe Posted January 26, 2009 Author Report Posted January 26, 2009 Alright, satin black it is! LOL I like the green on green a lot and the wife likes the black with red wheels. I've seen some cars that look great with the black/red and other cars that look terrible with the black/red. Then again when I see a 60's or 70's Mopar painted a non-Mopar color I don't care for it much at all. I go back and forth on the color. I am trying to somewhat keep this car on the cheap and the satin black would fit that. And it would hide and sub-par body work that might come up. Then again color wheels with dog dish hubcaps look great on a Mopar, hum. here's a sample of keeping it cheap, homemade iron on patches to hold my seats together: Quote

I'm keeping the rims because I want to run the stock dog dish caps. If I go with green I'm still going to repaint the rims. I will consider having the pinstripes put back on, thanks for pointing that out. I do love the look of restored but I bought this car to have fun and as a diversion. I'm in the middle of restoring a '67 Barracuda and the time/money factor has been a drag. Then again why ruin a really nice Mopar with a color change, right? dangit. Quote
rolliejoe Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 After looking it over, Nile green would be the best bet as it's the original color and it matches the stock interior (gray woodgrain dash) the best. 2 questions: 1. Enamel or uerathane? 2. If I let the body alone for now, how would the surface rust on the body (fenders, hood) hold up to Missouri weather as the car is going to parked outside at some point? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Rollie.....you could even go two tone.......like Nile green with a white top. Perhaps a darker green for the wheels if wanting to add even a bit more color. That way, all would be complimentary. I personally like the Nile green on these cars. I imagine the Missouri weather might rust and fade it a bit more, since we get both sun and rain. Not sure it would make it a lot worse....depends on how long it has to sit out. Of course, any water will get inside things and cause rust in the doors, the rockers, the trunk floor, etc. If you're gonna leave it out, how about using a car cover? There are numerous ones with varying prices. There are various ways to put the stripes back on your rims. A person or two have invented gadgets of their own making --to basically hold the brush in place, while turning the wheel. I think there were either two or three narrow stripes on these rims. ***just went back and looked at the pics at the first.....be sure to take some good shots of the stripes now on your rims for future reference. Young Ed Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Bob don't give away my plans. My 51 was originally all nile green and I planned to make it green with a white roof. Thats if I ever get back to it. Check the firewall for the original color. Lazy repaint Quote
rolliejoe Posted January 31, 2009 Author Report Posted January 31, 2009 Thanks for the ideas Bob, the white top looks good but the car has a green visor so all green it is. Plus I wouldn't want to steal young Ed's thunder. And Ed, you car and mine could be twins. Is yours a Cambridge? I have a Detroit car, vin **575373, Has a grey and blue interior that's mostly faded now. Quote
