Update on my new harness: As you will see I violated all color codes, couldn't find all the rainbow colors so just "went for it". I vinyl wrapped everything in the dash but as you can see not beyond the firewall, wasn't that sure of myself. I also cut all wires too long, didn't care if I had to trim, but I didn't want to add.

When I have everything confirmed, then I will final wrap. Observations: (1)the route on the firewall varies from one picture to another. I have a three on the tree so did not want wires near those linkages, (2) the '53 twin towers dash only has two panel lights, (3) my ignition switch has a long bolt on the acc post, evidently more accessories were being added by '53, the switch also has posts labeled in the plastic base, (4) my wiring harness is a two part harness: (a) the basic harness and (B) the turnsignal harness: I am not going to wire them as "one". (5) I brought a wire down from the cab interior light accross the top of the windshield then down through the cab post. Will put a toggle switch on it. (6) toward the end I learned to label every wire on BOTH ends as I cut them, it got too confusing, just could not keep them identified.

Finally this is NOT a difficult task, just time consuming and rather enjoyable. Good luck to others who built their own and a big THANKS to Dave Erb for his detailed schematic, would have been very difficult without it and his pictures.

You're gettin' there. Keep up the good work. Changing the colors won't have any effect on it's performance, as long as you aren't using smaller wire that what's called for. If you are changing the colors, you may want to note the changes on your wire diagram for future reference.

I honored all red, green, yellow colors and make the rest black. I will number all before I wrap the harness like is done in machinery electrical panels. I was really glad I made all wires longer, gave me more route choices, can "hide" some wires. Don't like the sight of wires, like them 'hidden' or at least 'subdued'.

I have a Signal Stat switch like the lower one in your picture. I wasn't able to find the correct wire diagram for it so I used a multimeter and figured it out. I also opened it up and cleaned out all of the old gummy grease and relubed it with fresh dielectric grease. Looking at the innerds also helped me figure out how it works.

Basically you have 3 power supplies. One from the brake light switch, and 2 flasher inputs. The other 4 wires go to the signal lights, 2 front and 2 rear. The brake light input will connect to the two rear lights when in the neutral position. When switched left or right the brake light will remain connected to one of the rear lights, but the other rear light gets connected to one of the flasher feeds. That flasher feed will also now be connected to one of the front lights. The other flasher feed only connects to all four lamps when the flasher switch is pulled.

Maybe that helps you, maybe it doesn't, but that's how I figured out how to wire up mine. Use an ohm meter and check continuity between different wire combinations. eventually you'll be able to figure out which is which.

Paul if it helps you decide the signal stat is still available new from napa. So down the road if something happens to that one that might make it easier to repair/replace it.

The Signal Stat is also in the Vintage Power Wagon catalogue, referred to as 'original look'. Will try that one first. The other one is hooked to the old harmess so will use that as my pattern then test to confirm all works.

Merle, your comments are VERY helpful, now have better direction for this project.

Found the wiring diagram for Signal Stat 900 through Google.
