Oh boy, I had my hands full yesterday with that coupe:mad: I have it down at the other garge and the conditions there are not perfect. I went down to rack some leafs and hook up the horn(it's just installed). I went to start the Plymouth however it just turned over and over. after a while I poped the hood and all I could see was moisture all over the motor, wires and plugs everything. I tried to dry it off and got the bright idea to put a light bulb under the hood. That was 9:00 by 2:00 I got it to almost start. i continues to do my work and about 3:00 I hooked the battery charger to it and it started up. Ten it started to miss I pulled plugs and found the wire was not tight.

I let it run a good half hour and then took it to the store. I got some oil and stuff, by this time it was dark. I drove around for about an hour( I love night driving) then pulled into the garage.

I now know why plymouth owners use everdry on the plug wires. These cars can not start where there is moisture. after all this I was to tired to work on the horns so I am looking for a horn button to indtall on the mask has anyone seen these in the auto parts staore and are they 6 or 12 volt?:)

Rodney..is this an unimproved style shed/garage, maybe a floor without a moisture barier or even worse..dirt floor..with the unseasonably warmer weather we have had..condensation does take it toll..parking the car on a poly tarp, real cheap and worth the investment..and are you covering the car with a poly tart..that is a no no as it should breath like good cotton tarp...and if you have power..running a fun will also help keep condensation off the car..these are thing you should do with enviroment that are not climate controlled...

Rodney,

Tim is right. If parked on a dirt floor, that's not good. As he mentioned a tarp on the floor would help. However, you could also lay plywood down over the floor to help a little. Probably the best thing (short of making the floor asphalt or concrete) is to lay heavy plastic sheeting down on the dirt, then cover that with crushed limestone gravel. The plastic will help keep moisture from rising up to the car, and the limestone would help soak up moisture from both the floor and air. The limestone should be at least about 3 inches deep or more.

You guys are right, this garage is the older wood garage with milling asphalt that has gotten old. I put a plastic sheet under the flooring many years ago however even that has disappeared. It's funny in the steel garage I put the milling on the floor and it hardened it's now a real floor. I think this winter I will have some more milling and see if I can get it to harden.

I have never seen this happen before:confused: very strange. I have seen some of my friends use limestone and very large stone in there garage however I never asked why. They store non-running cars so starting was never an issue.

These horn buttons you can buy at the store:D are they for 6 or 12 volts or does it matter.

If you use recycled asphalt that has been run through the crusher to come out as 3/4 inch size, you lay it down and spread it level, when it gets hot out, this stuff will harden up nicely, preventing moisture from the ground.

Most permanent asphalt plants have a pile of broken asphalt that they crush and add to the new asphalt, but they sell it as well. Very inexpensive. Because it's asphalt, no dust, too.

If you decide to concrete later, it's a perfect base for concrete.

Great substitute for gravel on a driveway..."sets up" in the heat and no dust.

Is a poly tart something you do while running a fun:D

Pat...I need to check this out...I have about 3000 sq feet of barn I would like about 3 inches of this stuff applied..place this on a very heavy moisture barrier..out to really do the trick..

Tim, with that much space, it would be worth it to rent a decent sized roller to compact it down after you level it. Done on a warm to hot day, it would be just like new asphalt...well pretty close anyway.

Best way to level it is with some upside down pallets side by side dragged behind a pick-up truck.

Levels it out pretty nicely.

We have a local plant that manufactures asphalt shingles, like go on your

house. They have "tabs" left over......which they sell to the public. Maybe about 6 inches long and 1/4 inch wide.

Folks put them on the driveway, and after a period of time being run over and in the weather, they compact and form

a pretty hard surface. I suppose they would serve as a moisture barrier ok.

Rodney, it sounds like you are mad at your "Old junk no start 40 Plymouth" so I am willing to take it off your hands for a small amount of money as I don't want to spend a lot on junk! :P I am surprised I am the first to offer to help you out!:P

I went down to the garage today to do some work on my uncle's van. He made the comment that his first car (age14) was a 1942 Chevy coupe. While looking at the Plymouth he said that during the cold months like this his car just would not start. he said he doubted if mine would either. I told him my car was able to start year round. He laughted and bet me lunch that it would not start on the second go. I looked him in the eye and said "It will start or I will buy you lunch and bring it to you for a week! I got in sweating and looking like I needed a restroom. I pumped the gas 4 or 5 times pulled the choke, hit the button and voom, vroom. AAHH just as sweet as could be:D :D After the steak and eggs I had the biggist chunk of apple pie with ice cream you ever saw:eek: with a big burp I made room for some chese cake. The Plymouth is back in good graces with me and yes I put a big tarp under her:rolleyes: I have learned my lesson and don't have to be told twice. Good night!

Your uncle was a loser before you made the bet. Didn't he know that a Plymouth is a much better car then a Chevy ;)

I would think you checked this but just in case if that happens again be sure to remove and check under the distributer cap
