WIRING!.Cover me I'm Going in....

Well, after a long summer of going out dancing drinking and playing around, I decided it is time to get back to the Desoto for some needed attention. I will start again today with the wiring. I started it in May and quit right after it got difficult. So I have a few questions: on my Starter there is three prongs. two are big and are set side to side and one is a small one and it sits on top of the other two. I have one of the Battery cable connected directly to one of the big prongs. I need to figure out where to connect two wires..one wire is label Solenoid Power on my wiring kit (EZ Wiring Kit) and I have another wire label Ignition Switch start... in the picture it seems to go to a fusible link...Can anyone help?????

here are some pics that might help you help me...:D

here is a picture of the prongs on the starter solenoid

What's this little relay under the voltage regulator? is it a horn relay?

can you tell which switch is which from this picture? I remove all and didn't label them...

A good schematic for your car would go a long way to help completion of your task. It would also tell you what your unlabeled switches are.

If you don't know how to solder, that is one skill you should aquire, crimp on connections can come loose and cause you headaches down the road.

I just rewired my car this spring and it was my first time. Eventually ended up taking out the front and back seats just to not cramp up! My service manual was invaluable, I don't think it would have been successful without it.

Frankie, did you replaced wire by wire? I got an EZ Wiring kit( one size fits all) and I have several different schematics that contradict each other...I am a mess....:D

The middle one should be headlights. That little square dodad on the side is a circuit breaker for the lights. The right one might be panel lights since it doesnt have many connections. Thats just a guess though.

Thanks for the input, next time I will label them as I take them out..jeez I was in such a rush that day, and now I forgot why I was rushing....

10-4 Good buddy!

Wire by stinking oily corroded greasy brittle crumbly wire. Small vent, felt wonderful! Mack I took the easy way out[read too expensive] and ordered a custom original specs wiring harness from Y n Z's YESTERDAY'S PARTS. 333 East Stuart Ave.,Unit A

Redlands, Ca. 92374

1-909-798-1498

They sent detailed instructions and chatted me up on the telephonio more than ANY other cutomer sevice ever has, down to even the most inconsequential question I had. The only problem I had with the entire harness was their schematic did not show the black wire from the starter to the Sisson choke. That has now been amended by yours truly and they sent the offending length of wire with correct connections already soldered on. [for free]

I can not stress enough, get your schematic before you get in too deep, it will reassure you and keep you from giving up.

What are you wiring should have been my first question!

Any part #'s on the switches???

No part numbers on them. just small markings to indicate what goes connected to them. I can't really figure them out. one of them the middle one(in the picture) has letters like P, T, I, H. the other switches have also this letters the right one (in the picture) has three connections and they are marked I, BI, BM.

Does this make any sense????

I am working on a 53 desoto two door powermaster with a flathead six 251 and a M6 transmission.

P.S. I know I will have to make my own wiring kit for the transmission. I just found all the relays, governor and connections under the access cover it's gonna be another can of worms...

my 53-54 ply diagram shows a switch with a B and M terminal for both heater and defrost. Perhaps yours with three connections combines those. It also shows a switch with B R P for the wipers. The P T I H one matches the headlight switch on the ply diagram.

AWESOME! I don't have the knobs so that makes it harder to even guess what they are! thanks again, I think I have an answer to the switches... thanks to all of you for the help. This type of push in bullet connection are they readily available, like, lets say Home depot?

Does anyone know what wires go to the solenoid on the starter????

I have two in question right now....

Yes the bullets are available. However besides the wire size the bullet ends have different sizes. Bring the switches with for a test fit.
