Well not that I needed another car but it followed me home

Its a 52 suburban seems to run ok it has some minor rust the worst spot looks to be the drivers side rain gutter. Interior will need some attention. The car is painted gray but it looks like it was originally green it must have been a cheap paint job inside the door jambs are original green. I do know the car was on the road and painted gray in 1993 because I found a parking ticket under the seat that I guess was never paid

a few questions I see the dash is green were the suburban dashs painted same color as the car or should it be the gray like the sedans had. It has back up lights in the rear is that original or added. If you can see in the photo it has what looks like a after market radio that came with its own dash filler.

Good...another Suburban owner..these things are just flat out are unique in all aspects...is it just the angle of the rear seat picture as I cannot see your storage boxes...

Yes it has both storage boxes also has the cover for the spare.

Good looking car. Where did you find it?

The wagons got painted dashes. Does the firewall match the dash? If so, the color is Lido Green Sympho. If it's lighter green, it's Nile Green non-metallic (in '51, the Nile Green came as a metallic).

I ought to get over to your house one day to look it over.

No but the dash matches the window trim and rear fenderwell colors.

Ed,

I took another look at the pictures. If your glovebox door won't close, tighten the hinge screws with a stubby Phillips head. Worked for me several times.

Thanks I will check the screws I just brought it home today so still have a lot to look at. I found it one of your favorite places craigs list the guy was in NJ across from philly about a hour below us

I have been looking for one of these Suburbans for some time now. Mostly what I find is 1000+ miles away from me and it just came out of the salvage yard. (mostly junk) Can I ask you how much you paid for this nice car? (for a point of reference) You've make a lucky find! Congratulations................

I am not positive, but I think your radio might be

an aftermarket one, like maybe you could have

bought at Western Auto or the Firestone Store or

some place like that.

Not sure who sold it I do have some 50's auto supply catalogs aound I will have to look through then when I can and see if I can figure out who sold it here is a close photo of the radio

that is the exact same model radio that was in my 51 Suburban when I got it out of Texas long back..I also have the same heater controls and will work well with my analog controlled AC I am installing...now the question is..where is the aerial on your car...

Wow, really nice shape! That's a keeper for sure. Some A/C and a modern drivetrain and suspension and you've got the coolest SUV in town.

The antenna is close to standard Mopar placement.....(on the curve of the

cowl)......but a little closer to the center. Hence is has to lean a bit to

clear the visor.

Seats appear to be nicely re-done. Looks like the rear window frames are

two-toned.....light and darker green. Does the dash and frames match

the green you see on the door edges? Sounds like they gave it the

proverbial "quick and dirty" paint job.......with the doors shut therefore

not doing the edges.

Why do you suppose there is rust on the rain gutter......did they maybe

have a roof rack of some kind attached to it?

Actually, it looks like beginning with the second series 49 Plyms they had

started placing the antenna on the fender instead of the cowl.

It has a aftermarket radio so the antenna may have been installed with the radio.

A nice looking wagon......pretty darn good condition for its age.

You'll have it even better when you get done sprucing things up.

I had a 54 wagon, with overdrive no less, back in the 70s.

Would be nice to have it today in the condition it was in then.

But back then I just bought it to play with for a while, then sold it.

The buyer let it sit for 25 years even though it was pretty drivable....

it turned into a rusty piece of junk.

My dad had an auto parts store in the 50's and 60's that I worked at and we sold Automatic Radios for several years. They worked fairly well and were reasonably priced as I recall.

Nice looking wagon. You'll have to watch for those things following you home like that.:D

As for the antenna location on the old cars of the 40's & early 50's. Is there really a set place for them? I've seen those things put in various locations. On the P15's for example. I've seen them on the cowl, both left and right sides. I've also seen them on either fender. In fact, my 48 had a factory radio in it and the antenna is on the left front fender, not the cowl. Even if it did not come from the factory with the radio, since it's the factory radio the dealer must have installed it. So...........I really don't think there is a right and wrong place for it. I'll bet if you look at enough 52's you'll find the same thing.

P.S. When I bought my coupe, the guy also had a Suburban sitting in front of his garage. Said it wasn't for sale though. It did not look as nice as yours though.

Norm, Thanks I have been looking for one for a while and it did follow me home every time I looked in the review mirror it was right there. If is in pretty good condition but as we all know by know they always look better in pictures.

Ed,

I know pictures hide a lot. However, the one I mentioned needed a lot of work. Paint faded, some surface rust, etc. I never did get a look at the interior, but my guess is, it was like the outside of the wagon. At least yours looks like it's basically ready to be at least a nice driver as is.

Guess I should have stayed in contact with the guy I bought the coupe from. I did drive by his house a few times after buying the coupe. However, that was on Christmas Day each time. He lived just a couple blocks away from the large old historical church we use to attend each Christmas. Wasn't our usual church and is way on the other side of town. Of course being winter the suburban wasn't sitting there.
