played around with some of the interior things.

The indicator was looking bad and I decided to try fixing it.

Result is , as far as I can tell, nice. The deep pits are still visible but overall it has improved a lot.

The before and after shots are attached.

Had in my other thread questions but not sure whether some have seen it?

I have them here again:

Question 1:

I noticed the Amp gauge was not connected (could be that it is not working or they did not know it would work with a 12 V aswell). The one the prev owner installed is not working.

- Can you test an Amp gauge without starting the enginge?

Question 2:

When I took out the gauges the the gaskets broke (very brittle).

They only will stop dust etc as far as I can see.

- Anything that can be used to replace this?

Question 3:

The idea is that the speedometer will change color. Now David has posted a description on this but when I removed the instr cluster I found 2 light bulbs in the main part. One is transparent, the other had a red bulb.

This is different than I remember from Davids setup.

Anyone seen this two lights with different colors?

Haven't seen it work though , probably the light bulbs are bad.

Update: the red light is actually painted red :)

Then the lights work but the wiring is crappy so I can replace/fix that

New question:

The cowl vent mechanism, how should it work?

I have connected it and the mechanism works but the vent goes up differently everytime and is not staying in one spot (so closing is not possible).

I can't see how this canwork (only one connection point, the vent is just free to move in all directions. Perhaps something is missing? Anyone a clear shot of the setup?

Thanks

John

John,

I don't know if this will help or not but here is a pic of the vent mechanism from my '40. If I remember correctly, after assembly the open slot you see in the flat link has a bolt through it which can be adjusted and controls how far open or closed the vent can go. Check to see if yours is tight and in the correct position.

"Painted the light bulb red" reminds me of days of my youth. New cars had red lights inside and we called those "sex lights"(dont ask me where that came from). Anyway I tryed a variety of ways to get a sex light inside my car,,,but results were less than satisfactory. A teen age boy doesnt quite know what works and what doesnt work BUT who wants to take a chance on NOT being "all inclusive". Probably was a here and then thing so wouldnt put much stock in it,,,but sure do remember spending alot of time TRYING to do just that.

A bulb painted red gave at best a pink glow. No. 1 problem is the heat ate off thick layers of paint. No 2 is they are redder when off than on!! Shoestring budget didnt even allow for going to a parts store and asking IF they had red bulbs. Probably didnt, but never ask either. Course back then they didnt have a parts store on every corner either!!

Painting the inside of the dome light didnt do much better. been there, done that!! OLDER people thought I was nuts,,,guess maybe they were right, looking back now.

Just like I remember painting on red wall tires too. (poor mans imitations) You were really cool if ya had store bought triple red wall tires(three thin stripes of red). That was late 60's thing!!(here and then) Along with the triple chrome reverse wheels and slotted chrome mags. THEN the real deal of the drk center chrome outside spoked mags!! The GOOD old days,,,best part of THAT is I was younger then!!! IB --just don--

'Sex lights' in my neck of the woods were purple and mounted in the upper outer corners of the windshield :-)

I am one to do all my own maintenance..however I had the Tiger uptown one day, long before I bought my own lift. I thought that I would go ahead and get an oil and filter, plus a chassis lube and give the car a look-see from under..while I will admit that the operators were very friendly and never in their lives had seen a Tiger thus was willing to let me inspect from the pit...sad part is that thier drive through bay had guard rails that would not permit the Tiger to drive on. My one and only experience with "lube shops"
