Allan Faust Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Hi, I started the cleanup of my gauges, and I succeeded in cleaning up my speedo... looks quite a bit better than it did, so now I'm working on the other ones.... I've got 2 questions actually... when it comes to the gauge face, other than replacing it, is there any way to restore the "coloring" on the face itself (ie the black/dark grey? and if so, using what? I've got scratches that have scratched the paint away from the oil pressure part of the gauge. Also, would anyone know where I could find the gasket that goes behind the bezel on the same gauge, in my parts manual it was listed as 8-37-295 part #1302402... mine has been reduced to a nice goo.... bob westphal Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Most instrument repair companies have gauge faces that exactly replace your badly deteriated gauge face. There are a number of them in Hemmings. I use Clawson Classic Instruments in Anacortes, Wash. mclawson@fidalgo .net. He is very good and does excellent work for a reasonable cost. He probably would sell you what you need. Bob Quote
Young Ed Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Allan I know you are in Canada but I can't recall if your car is. If it is it might be different. Anyway the US 50 plymouths have green gauges. Yours may be a lot more faded then you realize if they are just grey now. Quote
Allan Faust Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 Yes Ed, my car is a canadian model..... and as much as I look at it, I can't see any green.... The pic below shows the scratches etc.... don't laugh like my wife just did.... I took the pic holding it between my legs, and she said the pic looked like I was using it like a rectal thermometer.... (cause I couldn't find a good place to hold it....) Allan Quote
Young Ed Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Sorry but that is way funny! Maybe the Canadian models didn't have green? Seems odd to make a second set of gauges but I wouldn't be surprised. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 That is one funny photo! ! Put some pants on, man. Quote
Allan Faust Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 I couldn't resist repeating it after my wife said that..... but back to the pic, you can see the scratches on the face, and I'd like to at least colorize it a bit, but don't have any idea of how I should go about it. Plymouthy Adams Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 sometimes you can touch up stuff like that with a sharpie marker...we have paint pens at work for touching up aircraft instrumentation panels. Quote
