toddbracik Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 I bought the single wire universal sending unit from JC whitney for my early 49 D24. My original sender is DEAD. Does 80 ohms go with Full or Empty? Thanks, Todd Bracik. Quote
TodFitch Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 I bought the single wire universal sending unit from JC whitney for my early 49 D24. My original sender is DEAD. Does 80 ohms go with Full or Empty? Thanks, Todd Bracik. Early 49? Don't know about Dodge but my recollection from reading the service manual for 46-54 Plymouths is that it was not until late 49 (Post P15) that they went to the single wire sending unit. You may need the two wire sending unit to work in your car. Anyone have a D24 service manual or wiring diagram to determine which is needed? Quote
hucks 50 Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 0 to 90 is what i saw in my book Quote
Ramon Angulo Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I have a 48 D24 and it does have the one wire sending unit. I need to install a new sending unit as well. Sorry I'm not much of help. Once you figure it out I'd like to know how it worked. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 In the old days we use to test sending units with clip in resistors..if your sender had a 0-90 ohm range, the 90 would read about the line on empty and 10 would rear the line on full..if your gauge and wiring was good with these values showing the correct reading..then the trouble would be in the sender itself..most times poor ground or tired weak contact within the sender resistor wire and wiper...I checked both my books and while the early D24 with thermal gas guage had a resistance of 25 ohms nominal..it made no reference to the resistance of the single wire unit ....
