  1. Yes, the gyro transmission would likely require the Stromberg BXVES-3 carb.
  2. Well, last weekend we finally got the 1949 Dodge Coronet D-30 Sedan home to roost is SC. Car has 88K miles on it and as one would expect needs some TLC. The 230 runs smooth with no smoke and pulls hard. The Gyro shifts good (taking some getting used to). Right of the bat it needs a left rear wheel cylinder and shoes, two freeze plugs, a radiator flush, and a good service. The folks we bought it from have had the car in the family for 50+ years an were honest and up fornt. All in all a good buy. Follow along as I progess on it. Thanks to all who have welcomed my thus far. Jim
  3. I wonder if Howard's Cams could do grind? I know the Ford crowd has had grinds for the 223 I-6 from Howard.
  4. Tip-toe is the semi-automatic 4 speed trans. If it were me, keep what you got. I have a Gyro in my newly obtained 49 Coronet. It's ok but not my first choice. Jim
  5. Joey, Portawalls, from what I've seen on a Merc sled and one or two other in SC tend to pucker when used on radicals. This I believe is do to the softer sidewall. Hard to keep clean too. And if you curb one, buy a replacement. Jim

  7. Looks like a great find.
  8. I had Grundy on my 54 Ford and will use 'em on the D-30. Very easy to deal with. Just my $.02.
  9. Paint it white Tim (NASCAR rule) then you can see when comes loose. JC
  10. Scott, you can purchase an inexpensive Acton tach, dwell meter through most parts retailers. It will work on 6V positive ground igntions too. I used mine several times my 54 Ford six. Can't wait to go get my "new" 49 Dodge. Have fun researching and networking here. Jim

  12. Fascinating thread Brian. Kool car, great fab work.
  13. Thanks to all.
  14. Tod, Faxon Auto Literature is the source. Two are blue in color; 49-52 Dodge Car Shop Repair Manual, one a original and one a Bishko licensed reproduction. $89 and $34 respectively. A yellow 49-50 Dodge car repair shop manual for $79 (original). Hope this helps Jim
  15. Found a good source for shop manuals. They have both originals for $79 - $89, or reprints for $39. Anyone have first-hand knowledge if the re-print is inferior to the higher priced original. They also offered repos of the owners manual. Thanks, Jim
  16. Sweet ride Joey. 60mph on the highway! The ole six must have been churning.
  17. Sold the Ford this evening and waiting with excitement till after Easter to pick up the '49 Coronet 4 door and see what needs to be freshened up.
  18. Well then I'll go back to using Texaco Havoline oils.
  19. Just shows that "more doors" can be kick a$$! Loved the flatty powered bucket. While I like my 54 Ford fordor, I can't wait to get my "new" 49 Dodge Coronet 4 door. Out with old and in with the older.
  20. Thanks, trust me, that will be an immediate purchase. I have been sourcing them.
  21. Wanted to introduce myself. I just recently finalized a deal on a '49 Dodge Coronet "more door." I don't have pics yet as I won't pick up the car till sometime in April. Meanwhile, I am absorbing information on these vehicles like a sponge. I currently have '54 Ford Customline Fordor that is up for sale. I've been helping a close friend of mine with his '48 P-15 Coupe for number of years and love it so the opportunity came to make the switch and I've taken it. If this group is half as friendly as the 54 Ford bunch, I'm in good company. Thanks, Jim
