Thanks Norm, now I feel even worse! I'm the cause of my own problems! Oh well, I'm just gonna have to learn to be gentle...gonna have to ease off the steroids!

So I changed the oil in the Chrysler on Monday. Noticed there wasn't quite 5 quarts that came out. Need to check the oil level a bit more often. I know I'm not burning oil (or at least I shouldn't be as the engine was rebuilt like years ago). But there was a few drips of oil around a few of the nuts holding the oil pan to the underside of the engine. I wiped those off a early in spring and gave 'em a few spins to make sure they were tight. Seems like oil is seeping through. Can I just take a few of the nuts out and put some sealing caulk around them, or do I need to put in a whole new gasket? Just for the record, I used to be dilligent about checking the oil level everytime I got gas, but the two gas stations I go to stopped putting paper toweling out as well as squeegees to do the windows! So that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!

9 of em! Its like a retirement community for old Mets! The one thing I'm excited about getting a Met, is the fact there is a company that had a catalog that has in stock every single part for the car, NOS and reproduction! Life will be soooooooooo much easier!

Lol, I wish the C-45 got that good of gas mileage! Seems like I get 12-14 mpg since I'm filling up so often. (Don't actually know for sure, as I need to find the loose wire on my fuel gauge.) It was funny though, everyone in my family was eying my beater wondering if I was going to trade it in. Next car I get will be a green car though. A lil' four cylinder called the "Metropolitan!"

So for curiosity, thought I'd check to see if my daily driver would be eligible for the Cash for Clunkers rebate. Requirement: Car needs to get EPA rating 18 mpg or less. My car: EPA rating 19 mpg! C'mon! I swear the thing actually only gets 15 mpg in real life... sigh...One stinkin' mile, one mile! Oh well, looks like I'll be driving this one to the ground as planned, just hope it lasts me long enough!

Great idea about the photo album, didn't think of that!

Yeah, I was browsing around there, and seems like some of the stuff hasn't been updated in awhile (not that I'm complaining!). And pretty much all of it is text based. I was thinking more of a place we could contribute scanned original adverts, articles, diagrams, manuals and such that could assist and serve as a library archive of all things 40's-Early 50's Mopar. Anyways, doesn't seem to be much interest. i know when to let an idea rest! Oh well:o

Hey gang, I know there's a website called the old car manual project, or something like that, that has scanned images of old ads and manuals. I sent them a few e-mails and never heard anything back. 49plymouth.com has an awesome supply of 49 plymouth related literature. The imperial club has an extensive archive of lit. Do we have a spot for us to organize and upload images and such? I have a few handy things other 49 chrysler owners could probably use (like the manual card for the in-dash clock), but there isn't a cohesive site for 49 chrysler owners as our numbers are smaller. I notice we often upload in specific threads, could we start a section of permanent threads, like: "literature?" then have categories like ads, mechanical, electrical, news articles: then break down each of those sections as they relate to Makes/Models/Years For example: Literature-->Ads-->1948 Plymouth P15 Literature-->Electrical--->1940-1948 Dodge and Plymouth Generator Schematics (so that post of schematics is designed for all D and P in that year range) Literature--->News articles--->1948 Chrysler Town & Country--> 7/15/09 WPC Article I don't know if something like this is set up on the site and I'm missing it, just thought it would be a low work load on admins and moderators, and would allow us to organize and post useful information that might be collecting grime in our garages... Sorry if this makes no sense, had a rough day and running on a few hours of sleep. :(Let me know what ya' think moderators and posters:)

After reading the awesome hack for adding an mp3 cord, thought this might come in handy for some of us in summer! http://lifehacker.com/5308833/build-a-diy-portable-air-conditioner

I don't know if this will help, but here's my floors when I did it. Scrapped off the coating with a putty knife, then used a battalion of chemical strippers, sand paper, wire wheels, and elbow grease to get the red primer off. Then used phosphoric acid (Metal Etch) to prep the metal. Then Por-15. I used caulking to fill in the gaps where the old filler was. Then bought several cans of rubberized coating. Don't have a picture of that. Skimped out on not putting an insulation lining underneath the carpet. Gets a lil' warm by the feet, but late at night its kinda nice! I'd probably use it if I were to rip up the carpeting again, might deaden the sound a bit more. Good luck!

I don't like to talk politics on car forums, as the time and association with my car is my "moment of Zen." But to perhaps make you feel better here's Wisconsin's brilliance. We budgeted to build a new interchange by the downtown. When finished, we were about $70k under the budgeted amount. So to tell the locals about how thrifty we were, we made made advertisements. Total cost to tell everyone we saved $70,000...$70,000! Note:"We" means not me! Okay, now back to my fun hobby!

Thanks guys, I might take you up on the offer sometime. I plan on getting my own, but in the mean time I can only imagine what my rear wheel cylinders look like! Still got my new ones still in the wrapper sitting on my toolbox. I wonder if the P15 is the one I saw for sale... Thanks for the first hand experience with the Nash. I hate to promote an exaggerated notion on a car. The only reason I said they were prone to rust is the big book of classic cars listed rusting as one of the cons for owning the Nash Rambler convertible. Lois didn't have a Met, I think they started making those in '54.

I hit the jackpot at Iola this year! Got tons of stuff. The only thing on my list I didn't get was a rear wheel drum puller. Saw one for 80 bucks, but wasn't that comfortable spending that much on a tool I've never used and can't return if it doesn't work. Coolest tool I bought: Remote (by wire) push button starter for when I'm working on the car! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier than bridging a screwdriver over the starter! =) Only 2 bucks! For you Plymouth owners I saw tons of excellent condition lenses and odd parts (gauges and map light). Didn't see any 46-50 mopars...Well, I saw one I think that was for sale, but that's about it. K, back to work I go, have a great day!

Hey hey now! Take it easy on my first crush! :(Before I spotted the '49 Mopars I had my heart set on Lois' Nash Rambler convertible. Thankfully, I realized I wouldn't fit and moved on. Those are hard cars to come across in good shape, really prone to rust!

I just did this with my car. Got my brakes from advanced auto parts. Wasn't cheap since I was buying 6 new cylinders. No one (big name chain stores) were selling rebuild kits. The guys at Iola sell them for four bucks a piece. I think Andy B. has them, but if you have any scoring in your old cylinders and time is more important go with the new ones. You can hone out your old ones. I saved mine and am going to rebuild them at my own pace, so maybe in 20 years or so I got a set ready to install. Good luck, be sure to read the tech tips on adjusting the brakes once you get everything together! ~Adam

I sorta think of it as the Hershey of Midwest. Granted, I've never been to Hershey before. But basically its a car show, auction, car corral, and huge swap meet. Here's the link: http://www.iolaoldcarshow.com/index.asp They have a large selection of general classic vehicles for show, then about 50 cars for a specific theme, and then maybe 70 cars that are high end and parked around a building. The car corral is cool too, since there is tons to look at and they are all for sale. The auction I've never been to, but there was a 49 Plymouth convertible that didn't sell and wound up in the car corral that same day. I woulda bought it, but I didn't get papers from the bank to really lay down a deposit, and they mysteriously painted it like two days prior...Imagine a car wash. But instead of spraying your car down with water, it hosed it with paint...Glad I waited!

Yeah, those are my favorites when people used to own the car. I felt really bad, when I first got my car I was in a rush to go somewhere and a gentleman followed me to look at my car, apparently he owned that style car. I didn't really chat much because I had other things going on, but seeing the car was obviously really important to him. Still feel like a jerk a few years later.

Try this booklet out. Otherwise the site has a few others that pertain to the M-6 transmission. http://imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/012B/cover.htm Good luck! I noticed last week mine wasn't shifting to 2nd on a hill. Haven't investigated if if was a one time issue or something I need to look into. Thankfully I'm currently not hitting hills too often! =) Off the cuff it may be a carburetor issue, something in my brain says I was reading something about the carb being related to the shifting when I was rebuilding my carb last month...but my brain can't be trusted these days...

Anyone in the Midwest gonna make a trip up to Iola this weekend? I'm planning on going Friday. Was hoping to take the car, but looks like I'd have to drive through a chance of showers. While I wouldn't mind a cool run through a sprinkler when I'm at Iola, I don't really wanna be wet when I first get there! Anyways, if any one wants to meet up for a burger or something at the tower lemme know! BTW-If someone is looking for something let me know. Any time I'm at a booth I'm digging through the Mopar stuff anyways. I rarely come across much for my car, so its fun having a scavenger hunt list! Usually on an endless hunt for '28 Dodge parts each year as well.

Hey mate, I had a similar issue with my car. I don't know how the TX DMV is, but 'round here the DMV actually worked around the issue. My problem was that California in the 40's used the engine # for the VIN, and WI uses the door jamb VIN. Talked with the nice gal behind the counter and she got it all straightened out on paper. Good luck!
