  1. I was trying to search the forum for the thread I started on steering boxes and I can't find it. The person that sent me a pic of the steering he had showed me numbers. I just found out that the box will work in my car. If anyone remembers that thread or knows that forum member please respond. I need that box so I can ride safe this year.
  2. I Finally got back to normal after the swap meet. I had the greatest time. I went with a guy that has a lot of experience tracking parts. I found everything on my list this time. We found some parts for a friend of ours as well. A 1937 Dodge dash with the window opening parts in tact. I found s some Pontiac T/A parts as well as some parts for my 55 Chevy. It was a real nice day not hot but cool. Yes, I did have to jump out the way of a few carts. Everyone was real pleasant. We even got the carb guy to take a Buick carb for rebuild. I found a new rust Paint that has a real nice gloss on it. The guy with the headlight relay was my first stop. He had another for my Stude and he charged me half price from the other one. That was a nice surprise. We bought this engine analyzer that uses batteries. it's going to be a real joy getting that thing to work. Had a great time.
  3. I'm going up to Carlise Pa tomorrow for the swap meet. I am looking for another headlight relay. I need to put one on the 41 Studebaker now that I know how to do it. I will be looking for some spare parts for the Charger as well. Anyone else going up? I will have my hot rod green jump suit on so look for me I'll be the cat with the great big smile( anytime away from home is good time)
  4. I had to do an old trick I learned a while back. I line is not there the damper is very rusty. We wire brushed it and it's clean. I just found a sweet spot for the motor. The car ran very well. I then test drove it. it had great power and no ping. Then I advanced it until it pinged then backed off 2 degress and it ran perfect. Now he has no ping and it runs even. I never found the mark.
  5. I have been working on this 1948 Plymouth a friend of mine has, It has dual carbs and dual exhaust. He made a timing line and I set the timing to this line however the car pings going up hill. I set it 2 degress before top dead. We then turned it back 2 degress and it still pinged. We sent the dist. to then and now because it was eating points(bushings bad) Now if we can just get the timing right. I asked him to clean the damper however he says the line is just not there. It must be...right. I mean I had to clean mine twice before I saw it. We tried to put it on top dead center using the plug on the rear of the block head. I checked the vac. advance, I'm I missing something? Big car show this week end I would hate for him to miss it.
  6. After 6 years and countless swap meets I found my center clips they look great, the car looks complete now. Now if I can find the steering seal post I will be finished. I guess another 6 years and I should have it.....right?
  7. The headlight relay is really for the headlights. As the switch or what ever gets age on it the lights get real dim. The fog lights are more of a added feature. we really don't need them but boy do they look good!
  8. Hey Joe, your switch has two wires because one goes to the light and the other goes to the power source. The other pillar has one wire because it should be a direct connection from the other side. The light fixture itself is grounded and so is the switch. remember 6 volt pos. where it's grounded it's getting power.
  9. sounds like a plan, thanks
  10. I got mine many years ago now and it's still in great shape. Are cardboard items all they are interested in reproducing? We could use some steering post seals . My connection has dropped out.
  11. I think Mac's antique auto parts has been acquired by Eckler's I buy my 55 Chevy parts from them and I got a notice from Mac;s that the order was on it's way. Can Anyone confirm this?
  12. I have an old set of fog lights. it has a nut at the base of the bracket then there is a long bolt with a square under the dome head. The square stops it from spinning because it fits into the bracket itself.
  13. You guy's are spot on. I took the sockets out this morning and found that the plymouth socket has 6 points it makes contact on the body metal. When I restored this car I used alot of POR-15 it lined the under and insides of the truck. I first cleaned the socket itself then the housing it clicks into. The socket had alot of rust while the housing had the coating. It took alot of grinding but I finally got the socket housing cleaned then I tested the wire harness to make sure the wies were not broken inside of the plastic case. Sometimes if two wires (Stop and tail light) are touching it will act out as well. I reinstalled everything and it works right. The wire harness(Original) for the rear tail and stop light can be disconnected and removed. When I got this car the guy had bought a newwiring harness for the car.
  14. I started to clean my light sockets and was testing my brake lights. With the park lights off when I apply the brake I get brake lights. when I apply the park lights One brake light goes bright and the other goes dark. When I let up off the brakes the park lights go back to normal with both on and low filament. What is wrong here?
  15. Happy days, got the headlight relay installed and the lights are "BRIGHT" thanks all. It's a great day. The wires were very easy once I inderstood that the like wires went with the like wires. White and black with a power wire. thanks all
  16. Hey Don, yes it's heated and AC
  17. The light switch has 2 positions. The park light position and the headlight position. On the relay there are 3 terminal connections battery, lights and the switch terminal. where would the "switch terminal be connected to?
  18. The problem is it's so "pretty" we just stop and stare at it. It's so wonderful and angelic we just stop in our tracks plus it's a great way to get out of work. i'm gonna try to hook up my headlight relay this morning if you see a large cloud of smoke you know I made a mistake
  19. I see, I did see a single relay he had for just the fog lights. I was just wondering I really don't know if the fog lights need it. On the subject of the headlights. I was told by him to use the battery terminal at the voltage reg. then use the juctions at the headlight terminals under the hood for the light connection. lastly he said that the switch terminal was to be connected at the light switch at the headlight position. Do you all think this set up would work? I think connecting it closest to the switch is the best idea. The dimmer switch in my car is hard to get to however if this is where it needs to be I will have to do it there.
  20. I bought a relay about a year ago and have tried to install it many times. Today I think I am on the verge of the install. This relay is a dual head light relay. It has two terminals for the head lights which might mean I can run my fog lights thought it as well( Please chim in here if I am wrong) It has two fuses inside as well. It says it's Heavy duty on the case . I took a couple of picks for everyone to look at.
  21. I went to the Studebaker swap meet in York PA Friday and got the instructions for the headlight relay for the 1940 Plymouth. I did not know that the fog lights could have a relay as well. I have the plymouth in my garage however Now that I have the instructions I can't find the relay. I will keep looking or I might have to get another relay. What else can happen? Great time at the swap meet. Los of parts and cars.
  22. Bob, thanks so much. I will submit this and see what happens. again thanks.
  23. Hey Greg, remember you showed me an alternative for the steering mask seal. It was something to do with a rubber plumbing part.

    1. greg g

      greg g

Yea its a piece that goes up on the roof to seal the sewer or drain vent pipes. they com in the angle standard for most roof pitches, and in a couple of different diameters. Should be flexible enough to bend a bit to kit the firewall. G

  24. I have never seen that sign, that's not to say it isn't there. my man leon is very "different" over the years he may have lost his mind. I don't know. I like him and I have been locked in his place many times between 1100-100 because that's when he picks up cars and gets his lunch. Don't give up on him, he has alot of P-15 cars there. I stripped the last P-9 he had and he let me have everything I wanted until it was bare he called me 2 weeks before he crushed it.
