  1. When I first got my car there was one in the side of the block.It worked fine, It was nice to be able to remove it and clean out any sluge.After I cleaned out the block I replaced it with a brass one.I think you will be fine.

  4. That sounds like it , I forgot to mention that there is some water that is coming out also.Must just be condensation ill check and see if it is still there later on in the day after the first start.Is it normal to come out black at first?
  5. Also since I rebult my carb the car stumbles on acceleration What did I do wrong.Does this have to do with the black soot?
  6. When sitting at idle in the driveway my exhaust leaves a black spot on the ground.Am I running too rich? If so how do I cure this?
  7. Castrol 20w-50 and lucas oil stabilizer works good for me.Made the oil pressure go up a little and runs nice and quiet.

  9. My engine temp gauge only reads cold and hot. My needle stays at about a 1/4 in. away or less from the indicated "HOT". I run a 180 deg. stat., is this normal?What temp would this be if the gauge was numbered?
  10. I use castrol 20W-50 "High Mileage" and some lucas oil stabilizer. Anyone else use this? Or have any comments about this oil, is it ok to use?

  14. Anyone know where I can get a new oil pressure relief valve plunger and spring for a 218?Mine has a few scores on it and I am figuring that the spring is weak being 58 years old.

I finally got around to playing with the choke yesterday.The reason for the stumbles is indeed the choke, when it starts the choke was not fully closing so I closed it by hand and the car runs smooth when cold.I tried to adjust it but did not seem to help.I will try to play around with it some more today.

  17. How is the choke adjusted? On start up should the choke be fully closed?
  18. When I start the 218 it stumbles and I have to give it a little gas to keep it running.Once it is warmed up it runs and idles great.Where do I start?

I know this has been talked about but I never really got a sure answer.Is lead additive needed in a P-20.When I bought the car the guy told me that he did not use lead and when I rebuilt the engine most of the rings were broken but the valves looked good.Would the broken rings be caused by not using lead?

  22. Are the axle nuts on the left side of a 1950 plymouth left hand or right hand thread.I know that the lug bolts are left hand but I dont know about the axle nut.I cant get it to move in either direction, dont want to be tightining it when I want to loosen it.
  23. I used a T fitting with mine and it works great.I bought the pcv valve and adaptor from Vintage Power Wagons and some fittings from Ace Hardware.If you want me to post some pics. e-mail me and I will send them to you.
  24. I dont think there is enough of the shaft to grab and turn.Based on what I described does it sound like it is open or closed? If it is closed (no heat to intake) can I leave it like this ?
