  5. I was told you can slowly pour water down the carb at high idle to "steam clean" the head and internals to get rid of a lot of carbon buildup .
  6. Looks GREAT!! Too bad you cant see the art work on the firewall with the hood on and closed. Maybe you should think about molding a clear lexan hood

  8. You can age your pictures by using this site http://labs.wanokoto.jp/olds
  9. '40Plymouth how do you like this?

  11. www.vintagepowerwagons.com sells a oil pan plug with a magnet on it to collect any metal. Page 13 on this link. http://www.vintagepowerwagons.com/pdf/parts/01engine.pdf
  12. Put a heat lamp under the pan to thin the oil. I noticed that the cracks in my pan only leaked when the oil was warm.
  13. Im sure that the NOS steering wheel now has scratches on the bottom from sitting on the cement.
  14. When it drops down the pan will rest on the tie rod,you will just slide the pan aft and it will clear the pickup tube. You may have to lift the pickup, but you should not have a problem. Use a plastic wedge to get between your pan and block to break the old gasket loose. When you are ready to install the freshly painted pan drape a towel over the tie rod because you will want rest the pan on it to help you out with installation.
  15. You can also use it for a PCV hookup if you want to install one.
  16. Rockwood, Dont let this job fool you it is not hard at all. The worst part is being under the car if you do not have a lift. It sounds like your pan has a bunch of holes and cracks if it is leaking while sitting. I would replace the pan with a different one. Also do a search on installing the pan gasket, there are some threads on installing them.
  17. Well that show didn't do us any good.LoL I would have bought it for $5500 that car was in great shape.
  18. Once the pan is clean have him fill it with some alcohol. You will see almost instantly if there are any cracks. It will weep out of the cracks.
  19. Got ya, I run a 180 all year.
  20. Do you have a o-ring installed on top of the t-stat? If not that could be allowing coolant to flow past.
  21. I left my pan off for about a week without covering it. Put down alot of rags because it will drip for days. Also once you put the pan back on and run it it may look like you have some leaks but it could just be residuial oil. Just wipe it and keep an eye on it,most likely it will go away.
  22. There may also be some hairline cracks in the pan (by the welds). I found some in mine once it was cleaned and painted. Sometimes they are so small they will only leak when the car is warm. I had my pan off about 4 times to get cracks welded then decided to go with a NOS one from Vintage Power Wagons. If you go with them you will probably have to replace your oil pickup tube because the truck pans were a little different shape. Total with pickup tube was about $90 plus shipping.
  23. It may have been rusted out or added for extra protection. Changing the pan / gasket is a simple job. I would pull the pan and the flywheel cover, clean and paint both(you will be shocked at how much sludge is in there). You can replace the lower half of the rear main (That is what I did with mine and no leaks). You can also check the torques on the main and rod caps.
  24. I used krylon and it came out great, its been about a year now and still looks like new!
  25. That's great news! The exhaust leak may have gotten better because the manifold expanded when it was hot. Re torque the bolts on the manifold and maybe it will seal up.
