I'm installing seat belts in my back seat for the kids. I was wondering if the rear seat is removed just by simply pushing on the front of the seat frame towards the rear of the car? I have already tried and it seems very tight. I was wondering if the vertical rear seat needs removed first to reveal fasteners. Or is it the other way around? Thanks, Darren

1957 Buick specials have a very similar tell tail light. They said brake on also. I see them from time to time on ebay for $15 or $20. Darren

First of all insurance companies all have different policies. Some will work with you and some just work through the claims. It helps to have a good agent that is personnal with you. Talk with them about family or hobbies when making a payment or changing up your policy. Everyone can relate to old cars. It could pay off at a later date. If you just mail in your payment your just another claim. There are believe it or not still ways to get around salvage titles. For instance this car may or maynot total out at $4,900. If there is no loan on the vehicle, it is your right to that check. Now if you settle with the insurance company for $4,800 repair... it isn't totaled. You can take the check for $4,800 and get a clear titled car. Some conditions of insurance compnaies will not allow the vehicle to return to the original owner without a salvage title that bears problems such as sevear water damage, mechanical damage, fire damage, or anything that doesn't allow it to be just driven away. Typically a insurance company will work with you if your polite and patient. I'm going to run myself out of business for discussing this, but in order to walk away with a clear title and the $4,800 check you have to get the $ amount down on the estimate. If the vehicle has a $7,000 repair estimate tell the adjuster or estimater parts that you are willing to live with. The $200 dent in the grill. I can live with that. The $250 scratch in the render. I can live with that. The $400 hood ordament. I can live with that. You get the point! Another thing.... Most of the dollar amount of a repaired wreck will be in the refinish time. You can agree with the Insurance Company that you only want the parts in primer and not painted. Some body shops will do this in order to save your deductible, or they will not order and install a part such as a mirror. Has anyone priced a heated electric mirror lately. They can reach upwards of $700. NO JOKE!! Well now I have to find another occupation. Darren

Matt, if you would like to just go out and buy another car that is fine, but you could buy that car back after getting the settlement of $4900. Take the money and ask if you can buy the car back WITHOUT A SALVAGE TITLE! They may sell it to you for $500 or so. That would be a heck of a parts car if you wish or take the $4400 and fix the car yourself. Much of it could be done for less money by yourself fixing only what bugs you. Heck, fix the mechanicals and make a daily driver out of it, rain, snow....who cares! Darren

If the car does total out you have a few options. Keep in mind you have oportunity to buy it back after getting a settlement, or settle for the top dollar amount before it totals out. Insurance copanies are willing to work with those who aren't at fault. Keep us posted, Darren

I had looked to see if Vintage power wagons carries the spring and looks like they don't have it. Their catolog only lists the valve and shaft. Any ideas for another source for the spring? I was wondering if anyone had experimented with using a cable to control the valve? Thanks as always, Darren

I third this!!!! YOU MUST GET YOUR ANTIQUE INSURANCE CO. INVOLVED!!!! The tow insurance company most likely knows nothing about antique cars. They are just guestimating at what kind of time it will take to repair the wreck and will do it dirt cheap!! Grundy will whatch out for you and will make sure that you do not get ripped off! Winters not over yet and can turn overnite, hopefully it will. Your buddys have socked money into cars that won't hold value, yours will only gain in value. Just keep restoring old stuff and some day you will get the last laugh. Darren

I never make it to good guys because they always fall the same weekend that portland Indiana holds the largest scooter meet in the US. We are thinking of attending more car shows this year though. Just not sure which ones. Darren

We have had a mild winter, but its bad for business! I'm in the automotive repair industry. We need more bad weather!! It's great on the heat bill though. Darren

I bought it from the other side of Ohio over by Cleveland. Sad to say there isn't much history with it. The fellow I bought it from bought several cars in one collection and decided he didn't want this one for one reason or another. He didn't know much about it. I did get some paper work that I haven't sat down to study, but I noticed that there were recipets from far western states. It is a very solid car and I haven't detected any panels that have been replaced other than a small section under the rear seat, probably common in convertibles. Judging by the panels it definitaly isn't from around here. It's all original drivetrain with a 12v alternator and front disc brakes. The front drums and generator came with the car in boxes so I have the option to switch back if I like. The brakes stop real good! I can't imagine switching back, but it also has the small original master cylinder. I might have to do somthing with that in the near future. The shocks have had some sort of relocation kit added. Looks like a professional job or somebody that knew what they were doing! It drives fairly straight down the road. I think we will have lots of fun with it. The wife and I are oddballs!! We like just about anything old unlike most of our generation. Its hard to relate to them sometimes. Darren

Hello fellas, I thought I'd introduce myself only with the car this time. I think I touched base that I'm 37 with a wife and two kids, ages Eva 2 1/2 and Reece 7. So we are both excited and can't wait to put the top down. Ohio has a ways to go before that happens. I hope the pictures go through ok. Anyway, I have been questioning and emailing back and forth with some of you for a while now. Actually I have made myself right at home. I just picked up my car last weekend and took it for a short drive today! It's only the second time I got to go somewhere in it. Wow what an experiance! It is really a joy just to loaf around in the country all over the road in it. It's kind of different! I've never driven a convertible before although the top was not down today so it didn't make a difference. The weird part of it all is the car feels soooo wide, but I can touch both inside door panels without a stretch. The barakes are suprisingly not to bad. I haven't had time to inspect too much on the car as far as mechanicals go. I think it needs a tune up, but I'm not sure just yet. I thought I detected a miss once in a while, but then it smoothed out. Kinda hard to hear with the wind today. All in all it wasn't a bad second impression. I am surprised at how slow the car can take off in second gear! Heck.. I can basically come to a crawl at a stop sign and take off again. It's nice in the way, however it of course means high revs at 55mph. The car is basically sound, but I have many jobs that are on the to do list! Oil change is one of them. I'm glad the topic of oil filters has come up. Learned quite a bit from that topic. The car looks great in pictures, but has a few issues that need adressed. All to come in time. I'm looking forward to spending much time here exchanging ideas! Darren

Cell phones shouldn't be use while driving, but you just can't rule out the handy use of them these days either. Even though many of us can fix just about anything along the road, you have to have the parts. Parts just aren't as available for these old cars like they once were. If you are in an old car that is no longer turning the wheels it sure is nice to just make a phone call. At the very least it's nice just to have peace of mind. Darren
