  1. I just ordered one of these from Ford, it cost $14.49 and they had 42 in the warehouse. I figure for that price it will be worth a try even if it doesn't work.
  2. I'm thinking that I would like to try the float in this thread... http://www.gudim.com/ReplacingCorkFloats.html Is there any reason why I couldn't drill a small hole in each end of the float so I could slide it on the arm like the original cork? I would then solder the holes shut tight to the arm so it doesn't leak.
  3. I got my sender out and tested it and it works great. The problem is that the cork float isn't floating enough to raise the arm. They seemed to be soaked with gas. I took them off and grabbed a wine bottle cork and stuck that on the arm and it works really well. I think the plain cork will soak up gas though. I might try a synthetic wine cork. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this without buying a new sender? Is there a gas resistant coating I could use on a new cork?
  4. I took me months to figure out what was wrong when it happened to me. I swapped the needle and seat and thought they would be exactly the same, the problem was the new one was longer so it messed up the float setting.
  5. You might want to check your float and make sure you didn't bend the little tab. When I had my float set too low (caused by a taller needle) it caused a surge or miss at higher speeds.
  6. Wonderful it looks like it's Sunday 9/18, which means I won't be there. I have to leave for Albany on the 17th.
  7. I know where that is but I have never been there. Are you going to be at the Jordan show?
  8. We haven't been anywhere with the car this year except one local show. Heck I have barely driven the thing. Our neighbor got a 48? ford and he has been bugging me to cruise around. What is Snan Ellus?? We are hoping to make it to the Jordan Fall Festival.
  9. My neighbor went with his ford. I wish we could have made it but I had to stand up in a wedding.
  10. Duh, I was picturing it on the front of the driveshaft. I might have to do this.
  11. How do you set up your emergency brakes when you switch to a new style driveshaft?
  12. I tried that, I wish I could say that it worked.
  13. I looked in the trunk last night and found an access cover, I was very happy until I removed the cover to find that half of the sender is covered by the trunk floor so I can't get one sender screw out and the sender won't come out. Back when I had my dual exhaust built the idiot that did the job built it the way he wanted and not the way I wanted. His way included moving the gas tank towards the passenger side of the car so he could fit the pipes between the frame and the tank. That also means that it moved the sender out from under the access hole. I'm going to have to unbolt the rear exhaust pipes and hope they will move enough to slide the tank alittle. I don't see it working because there is almost no room between the pipes and the frame and tank. I now have another reason why I should have strangled the guy for building the exhaust his way. I did try grounding the tank to the frame and that didn't do anything. I also checked voltage across the gauge terminals and I had a little over 2 volts.
  14. Is there access through the truck floor?
  15. I took my p6 for a drive last night and the needle on the fuel gauge only jumped to just barely past the empty line when I started it. In the past the needle would move around alot between how much fuel was in the tank and empty. It would always eventually jump back to the right spot while driving. I figured I was almost out of gas so I went to fill it up and it only took 5 gallons. The needle will only jump just past the empty line when I turn the key. I looked at the back of the gauge and the 2 wires are really clean and tight. I won't have time to look into it further until the weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check first? I hope it's not the sender, I really don't feel like pulling the tank out.
  16. I originally rebuilt my carb because it was doing that. When the engine was hot and I turned it off all the fuel from the bowl would somehow leak down the throat causing the engine to flood and start hard. The rebuild fixed it but caused the float issue that I eventually figured out.
  17. I had a problem with my engine running rough on acceleration and higher RPM's and it started after I rebuilt the carb. After lots of work I discovered that the new needle and seat were different lengths than the old ones so the float was not set correctly. The car drove like it lost almost all power when accelerating or cruising. It idled fine though. I set the float correctly and it solved the problem.
  18. I'm born and raised in the Finger Lakes and hated snow and winter with a passion. Until last year. We bought a couple of snowmobiles and now it's my favorite season, snowmobiling in Old Forge is probably my favorite thing to do now.
  19. Man after everything I did to fix this it ended up being something very simple. My float was set way to low, I'm surprised it ran at all. The last time I rebuilt the carb I used a new needle and seat. I didn't recheck the float because I figured it wouldn't change. The new seat way different inside and the needle stuck out farther causing the float to barely move. I replaced the seat and set the float and now it runs great. I went on a 20 drive last night and it ran better than I can ever remember.
  20. Actually it doesn't matter what I do with the choke now, it runs rough wide open or partially closed. I'm frustrated.
  21. I left it where it was from when it was rebuilt. It does not seem to move up very much, maybe I better check it. Thanks for the idea.
  22. I just successfully completed a head change and now that I'm running the engine without a nasty spark plug leak I discovered I still have this miss or rough running engine. I have changed or adjusted everything, man this is frustrating.
  23. That's what it said, I have the studs.
  24. I'm almost thinking for the money an original fenton brings I could sell it and get disc brakes and a t-5. I'd notice those mods more.
  25. I did my head last night and I swear the manual said 55-60 pounds for the iron head. I went to 60, should I go higher?
