  1. I do have the 6.00 X 16 tires and I think the gears are 4.11. I'll hook up my tach sometime and see what the RPM's are. I know when I hooked it up last week and revved the engine to 3,000 it sounded worse than my old 327 did at 6,000. The engine is in great shape and has only 43,000 original miles.
  2. What kind of RPM's are you guys turning? My stock 38 with a 3 speed is screaming at 65-70. I cruise at 50-55 at the most, any more than that and it sounds like it's going to blow apart.
  3. Even gov. employees are losing health benefits after retirement. I work in county law enforcement and we have a pretty good retirement package. I only have to work 20 years and I get half pay forever. It sounds great considering I could retire at the ripe old age of 43. The problem is everyone's getting rid of medical benefit's after retirement. We have been trying to negotiate medical with no luck, it's too expensive. The best I can hope for now is that I can get on my wife's insurance until we reach 65. I'd like to work part time for 10 more years after getting my 20 in and then retire completely.
  4. I set it for a 6 cylinder engine and hooked the green wire to the coil, red to ground and black to 6 volts and it works perfect. I wish the tach looked older, it doesn't really fit with the car.
  5. I can deal with that. Anybody knows exactly what years and makes these were used?
  6. Is red still positive and black negative then or should I reverse those because of the positive ground? I hate electrical stuff.
  7. I meant is this a bolt in deal. Can I pull my three speed and pretty much put one of these in it's place without changing the driveshaft or emergency brake setup etc.
  8. Is this a bolt in replacement for a 38 plymouth 3 speed? God I'd love to have an overdrive transmission that slides right in place of my 3 speed.
  9. I'd love to know what the RPM's on my flathead are. I still have the stock 6 volt positive ground system. I was reading on the net and I saw that some people claim a 12 volt tach will work with 6 volt cars. I happen to have a sun super tach that is 12 volts. I think I might try it out but I'm not sure how to wire it. It has four wires: black-ground red-12 volt green-distributer white-lights How would you wire this thing to test it? Would I reverse the red and black since I have a positive ground? Does the green go to the coil???
  10. You did all that work and only drank one beer? That's easily a six pack job.
  11. I have seen colored whitewalls and colored tread on tires. They are ugly.
  12. I finally got around to changing the pan gasket. A two hour job turned into an all day job because I decided to clean the outside of the pan and repaint it. Since I had to wait for the paint to dry I lowered the rearend 3/4 of an inch so the car sits more level. I don't think the pan gasket leaks at all anymore but something is leaking between the transmission and the engine still. It drips out of the little hole in the flywheel cover still, is that a rear seal? At least I got to clean out the pan, although it wasn't as dirty as I expected.
  13. During my quest for a set of 15" rims I ran across a set of 4 16"x4.5 wide rims that fit early mopars, they even have the hole for the pin. They have light surface rust and the guy said they are brand new and never mounted. He wants $25 a piece for them. I am thinking about buying them since I can't find any nice 15" wheels. We looked thru dozens at his yard. Can I fit a radial tire on these? What size could work?
  14. Anyone know the part numbers for points and condenser for a 1938 plymouth? They usually have the parts I need but it's getting harder and harder for them to look anything up from the 30's. It's much easier to tell them the part number for what I need.
  15. I'm running short glasspack looking mufflers on my dual system. It's still fairly quiet at idle but sounds good cruising and downshifting. I drove it to the muffler shop with just a split manifold and no pipes, that was loud. I almost went with straight pipes but chickened out.
  16. I'll check that out, I never thought about the wipers.
  17. I wish I could determine exactly where the water comes in. I have crawled up under the dash several times trying to figure it out. I may try this sealant first, if it doesn't work I guess I have to learn how to change the gasket.
  18. Thanks, I'll give that a try. Hopefully that does it, I really don't feel like pulling the windshield.
  19. I got stuck driving in a terrible downpour Saturday afternoon. I have always had a small amount of water that would leak into the car at the drivers side lower corner of the windshield. I only noticed it when I washed it. I found out Saturday that bothe sides leak bad in a rainstorm. Water was dripping onto the floor on both sides and the door panels near the front got soaked. From the outside my weatherstripping looks to be in great shape. Is there supposed to be any sealant in there and how how is it to replace the weatherstripping?
  20. I don't believe one gas stations fuel is any better than the one down the road. I have never had any fuel related issue with any car I've owned. In fact nobody in my family ever has either. My suburban has almost 200,000 miles on it and it runs perfect. I use the cheapest gas I can find and I use nothing but Walmart synthetic. All gasoline has to meet minimum standards.
  21. I get pissed every time I see people buying gas at a Mobil station when it's always 10 cents a gallon cheaper at a station across the street. Why would even pull in there and pay more when you don't have to?
  22. I had the name of the ones from blueskies but I can't find them. I'm leaning towards the tire paint. I just don't see how that can work very well.
  23. I finally tracked down a set of 15 inch rims. A guy right down the road with an old junk yard has hundreds of them. I refuse to pay the price they want for radial wide whites, no tire is worth almost $200. I have checked with every local tire store for something even a little wider than a normal wide white and they don't have a thing. Someone must make something. Please help me, I hate the look of the skinny whitewalls and I hate blackwalls. I need some wide white radials on my car.
  24. I'm not really sure about the gas. It didn't detonate with the gas in it from last year. I filled it up last week and noticed it doing it a little, last night it did it alot going up a hill.
  25. Darn, I had it backwards, thank you.
