  1. I'll try but it won't be until late tonight or tomorrow morning.
  2. No, more of a rectangle with a flat top that bolts on.
  3. My brakes aren't dragging at all. In fact they work really well but the brake lights are stuck on. I removed the plug in the top of the master cylinder and I can't see any holes in there but the way this is down low under the firewall it would be nearly impossible so I fished around in there and I was able to locate one hole towards the rear of the master cylinder. Do you usually have to remove the entire top of the master cylinder to see these holes?
  4. For what it's worth I used brand new fluid and completely flushed the system. The old fluid was not very dirty. If one of the relief holes were plugged would the brakes be dragging at all? They seem to be free right now.
  5. My brake pedal is so stiff now it feels like there is no free play. I did not touch the rear brakes but I did have the front drums turned and then only did the minor adjustment at the top. I adjusted them until the shoes touched and then backed off slightly. Is it recommended that I loosen the shoes in the front a little more or make the adjustment on the master cylinder push rod? I have never made an adjustment to the master cylinder pushrod before.
  6. I suspect that it's the free play, I will try to check both of these things today.
  7. It has something to do with the switch, the wires were so hot that I had to disconnect them before they melted.
  8. I did notice that after the bleeding the brakes they fully engaged when the pedal was about halfway to the floor. After driving the pedal only moved about 1/4 of the way. They don't feel like they are dragging though.
  9. I'm so frustrated right now. I started a little project last month that involved new front wheel cylinders, turned drums, new shocks, powdercoated wheels with new pinstriping and new tubes. I just got it all back together and it looks great and the brakes work beautiful but, my brake lights are stuck on. What could have caused this? I'm assuming somehing to do with bleeding the brakes or the shoe adjustment. I'm not sure what to do next. I wondered why the battery was dead when I tried to start it.
  10. Once again napa saves the day. Can't wait till they open a store on merritt island. Advance and AutoZone are virtually worthless.
  11. I was able to confirm that the new style bleeders from the front wheel cylinders do physically screw into the rears however I can't find a auto parts store locally that sells that size. These are quite a bit larger than everything they have in stock.
  12. The bleeders on the rear wheel cylinders looks like a standard bolt with a very small second bolt screwed into it. The fronts are the standard bleeders. I need to bleed my brakes after replacing the front wheel cylinders and my wife is out of town. I would like to replace the rears with the regular style so I can put a hose on them and bleed the system alone. Anyone know if they fit? I don't have time this morning to pull one and check it. I saved the old ones from the front just in case.
  13. Good news, I have 4 brand new shocks on the car. The ones I ordered yesterday would not fit on the front they were too long when they were compressed. They did however fit perfectly on the back. These were napa part # 94050, from a 1985 ram charger. The bushings on these were too wide so I cut them off and used my old bushings on them and they fit perfectly. The dimensions on them were nearly identical to the old ones They spent almost an hour this morning looking up something for the front and ended up with a napa number 94227. I can't remember what he said they fit but they were from a newer model vehicle. These ones compressed were identical in length and when extended they were slightly shorter which was okay with me because the original ones were way too long. The bushings had a metal sleeve and it was too small to fit on the shock mounts so I drilled out the rubber bushings and also used my originals in the new shocks. I still have to finish my brake job and get my wheels back from powder coat to give it a test drive but I'm sure it's going to be much better than the originals. All 4 shocks were just under $100.
  14. I pulled one of my rear shocks and it is a Gabriel Red Ryder with two part numbers 42146 and 42318. They are not gas shocks like I thought so I'm going to try to replace these to. They measure 13 5/8 and 22 1/4. They will physically bolt onto the front but I think they need to compress at least one inch more to work correctly.
  15. I am right at 2 inches of clearance and have never felt it hit.
  16. My fronts are mounted to a 5/8 stud that's 1 1/4 wide. The actually width of the shock loop without the bushings is 7/8.
  17. I'll try to post more dimensions later tonight. I brought my shock to napa but I think he measured it from end to end or he figured that it was close enough. I will find out tomorrow morning.
  18. The distance changed an inch or two but the original shocks still worked. They are just worn out and arent gas shocks. If they arent original they are very old. Im now more curious about the rears, they look very close but i dont have time to pull one tonight and i cant see a number. They are a gas shock that I found about 10 years ago and they fit perfect.
  19. My car is lowered a bit and im at 15 inches mount to mount. If you can find a part number i would be very grateful.
  20. Well, now I'm a little bummed. My shocks are 12.5 by 20.75 measured center hole to center hole. The shock napa ordered for me is number 94050 and they measure 14.125 by 23.375, im not sure how they measure them. The length looks fine but the compressed length will bottom out well before the bumpstops. I guess we shall see in the morning but im not real confidemt that these will fit.
  21. It took napa under 5 minutes to find me shocks but they had to order them. I'll pick them up in the morning and try them. The dimensions were off a little but I think they will work, I think they were from a 1986 ram charger. If they work I'll post up the numbers tomorrow. I think the rears are longer than the front.
  22. I found part numbers for a 39 plymouth. They won't fit the 38.
  23. I already tried that.
  24. Im trying to find a replacement gas shock for the front of my car. I tried autozone and advance today and not only can they not look up anything in their computer, they also don't have books anymore. I brought a shock with me so we could go by the dimensions but they can't do that either. I'm going to try a napa tomorrow. Does anyone know of a part number or modern vehicle that I can have them look up? I would like to pick something up locally so I can start assembly tomorrow.
  25. Never mind, think I found a number.
